3.0 out of 5 stars Helped me, but not in the way it was intended to
I was very depressed after my 3.5 year relationship with my ex boyfriend ended out of the blue one day. One day things were wonderful. He spoke of marriage, children, etc. Then one day he just dropped it all together and wanted to be single, so I was heartbroken. I thought he was the one.

Well, I purchased this book about a month after the break up. I still...

Where has this book been all my life?!?!

The 30-Day Heartbreak Cure: Getting Over Him and Back Out There One Month from Today is a must-read for anyone who lives and breathes. Whether you're struggling with a significant other, trying to emerge from a dead-end relationship, reeling from the loss of a job, coping with the death of a loved one, or facing just about any other conflict you can imagine...this book will be your new best friend. Even if you're contented with your interpersonal relationships, this book will truly teach you how to achieve your personal best. What you realize upon reading the very first chapter is that while heartbreak takes on many forms, we all respond the same. Catherine walks the reader through a foolproof, step-by-step process for reconciling our emotion and moving forward. She encourages us to use the past only as a portal for obtaining wisdom and strengthening our resolve, and reminds us that not only are we entitled to our emotions, but that we can channel them to triumph over grief and conflict. You will genuinely feel as though she is taking each step right along with you...which makes perfect sense, bearing in mind that she is writing from experience. There's no better way to start the New Year than by giving yourself the gift of reading this book, and I've recommended it to many people thus far!

I am so grateful that Catherine took the time to write this book. After the breakup of my 26 year relationship I was just devastated, shocked and lost.

I felt that I had a real friend throughout my 30 days and that was so comforting.

This book is filled with excellent life skills in general and gently moves you through the days of one of the most painful experiences that we can go through.

I very highly recommend this book to anyone going through a breakup. Grab this book immediately and work through it.

I also recommend this book for people who might have forgotten who they are and that the most important person you can love is yourself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Guys, Don't Let the Pink Cover Fool You!, January 25, 2009
This review is from: The 30-Day Heartbreak Cure: Getting Over Him and Back Out There One Month from Today (Hardcover)
This is a must-read for any person, male or female, who wants tips on achieving self-confidence, an upbeat attitude, and happiness. Think of it as "30 Life Lessons" that demonstrates the power of positive thinking. As a male AND a teacher of high school students, I was struck by how much each and every page had words of wisdom that were applicable not just to the woman who has had her heart broken but also to guys, to high school students (who battle problems dealing with relationships and self-image on a DAILY basis!), and to my friends. As a teacher, this book was like a teaching aid; it equipped me with the tools that I could pass on to my students in my routine demonstration of "Life 101." As a male, this book made me realize the differences between how men and women approach relationships and how communication can be a really important factor in making those relationships successful. And as a friend to those close to me, boy oh boy, did it give me a great tutorial on what I can do and say to my friends when they appear "out of sorts," use negative self-talk, and act in self-destructive manners. Despite the focus on "heartbreak," this book has life lessons for EVERYONE, and it is worth the short time that it takes to read every insightful tip. Hickland's sincerity and compassion come through in her genuine tone, and it's as if she is sitting right beside you as the two of you enjoy a cup of coffee and talk about life. The conversational feel of this book is what makes it unique and inviting. You absolutely WILL NOT regret purchasing this book. It will become a permament part of your bookshelf collection!

I read the book and I also highly recommend it. It's not a tell all type book, so don't expect to find juicy details about the author's breakups. She doesn't mention names. Very classy. She gives daily assignments and focuses on you getting through the breakup. It is an empowering book that teaches tools in feeling good about yourself, how to create the life that you desire, and techniques in dealing with people who demean you. This is a great book for anyone even if you're not going through a breakup. There is even a makeup lesson in there! Some of the chapters are "Being your Own Best Friend.", Manifesting Your Beautiful Life.", "Get off the Cross-We Need the Wood", "You're Making Me Uncomfortable.", etc. There's tips on what to look for when you are dating, signals to look for that will show you if the relationship can be successful such as how he treats others such as waitresses, friends and family.

5.0 out of 5 stars One word...Excellent!, January 4, 2009

This review is from: The 30-Day Heartbreak Cure: Getting Over Him and Back Out There One Month from Today (Hardcover)
From what I have read so far, this book is excellent. The author speaks in very warm, caring tones. It feels like she's right there walking your through your heart ache. The positive affirmations are great! The suggestion for keeping a daily journal is extremely helpful. The expereiences and examples she gives...every woman can realte to. I found myself saying, "Amen" to alomost every word she wrote. I have read numerous other books on curing a broken heart, but this one has a real personal touch to it. I love it!! It has been very, very helpful to me. I wish she had written this book years ago! If you are experiencing a painful break up, this is the book for you. I will read this over and over again. Thank you Catherine!

I also recommend How to Heal a Broken Heart in 30 Days. It is an EXCELLENT resource as well.

3.0 out of 5 stars Helped me, but not in the way it was intended to, December 30, 2011
This review is from: The 30-Day Heartbreak Cure: Getting Over Him and Back Out There One Month from Today (Hardcover)

I still wasn't over my ex yet even a month later. I noticed one major flaw with this book that I am surprised no one else noticed yet on Amazon reviews. Near the very beginning it tells you to go "no contact" with your ex. That means absolutely none whatsoever. So if they contact you then you can not contact them back. You have to just ignore them. The flaw with this is what if you still live in the same house? What if you both have children together? What if you both work at the same job together? Etc. Obviously you will have to talk to them in these situations. Perhaps the author should have had a second option, which would be "limited contact" and the rules on how to handle that as well, but she didn't. That to me is a major flaw for anyone who has no choice but to be around their ex in person.

I should also add that this book did help me get over my ex, but not in the way it was intended. In my situation I had already been depressed for a full month prior to purchasing this book. I read the first 5 days and by the 6th day I was just sick and tired of picking up a book that reminded me of HIM. I was so sick of reminding myself of him and all the pain he caused me that picking up the book for a 6th day in a row was just too much for me. I didn't feel like thinking about him anymore, so I quit reading the book and that in itself helped me. I know the book wasn't designed to work like this, but I do have to admit the first 5 days were helpful. It tells you to write a journal for yourself (write down all the negative feelings you have about yourself after the break up ... but later on become your own best friend and turn those negative feelings around into positives), to get out with friends and have fun, to not talk to him (this was easy for me since he is in the Navy), etc. Apparently that was enough to heal me, for I no longer want to get back together with him anymore like I used to. I'm a happier person now because I keep myself busy with my friends, even if it's something as simple as watching a movie with them.

Anyway, this is not a bad book. Clearly it does help people who go the full 30 days of reading it when you read the other reviews. But if you are like me maybe you too will get so sick of a book that constantly reminds you of him that you'll stop in the middle of it, but on the bright side you will be healed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Helped me through my roughest times, July 3, 2011

This review is from: The 30-Day Heartbreak Cure: Getting Over Him and Back Out There One Month from Today (Hardcover)
I first heard about this book 2 years ago when I was going through a really rough time in my life. I was in a very difficult relationship and I was also dealing with depression and an eating disorder. Quickly after hearing about this book, I forgot about it untill 2 months later when my relationship ended and I was at rock bottom. After looking up numerous reviews I decided to order the book and to have it rushed. I couldn't rest until I had this book.

Once it came, I started to read, teared up, and knew this was the perfect book. I so badly wanted to read the whole thing at once, but I'm so happy I didn't. Following the 30 days of this book allowed me to really discover myself and focus on my needs. I took about 35 days to complete all the chapters because I felt I needed to cover a few issues more than others and repeated certain activities until I felt comfortable enough to move on. By the time I was half way through the book, I really did start to notice a change in myself. I was happier. I acted more like myself. I made progress in my recovery from my eating disorder. Sure, I took two steps forwards and one back occasionally, but whenever that happened, I just turned back to the activities that helped me face those issues.

It helped me so much, I actually read it twice. The first time I read it, I wrote notes of all of my thoughts and saved everything used in the activities. The second time, I looked through the book and all my notes and could not believe how much progress I made from day 1 to day 30.

I cannot thank the author enough for creating such a wonderful book. It really is a 30 day cure

5.0 out of 5 stars A Journey For Self-Discovery and Reinventing One's Life, March 5, 2009

This review is from: The 30-Day Heartbreak Cure: Getting Over Him and Back Out There One Month from Today (Hardcover)
I admire and respect Catherine Hickland as an artist and actress. When her book came out I was intrigued and wanted to better understand her point of view and perspective on managing relationships and rebuilding one's life admist the chaos and trauma after a break up - especially in these times.

Catherine takes the reader on a journey and road maps a plan of action to soothe one's spirt/soul in addition to rebuilding confidence and dignity at such a vulnerable time in one's life. Her words were intimate, powerful and truthful. At the close of the book, the reader is taken to a level of consciousness where clarity and self-discovery is achieved.

Although the framework of this book is about managing the loss of one's love ( whether perceived or real) - the principles shared can be applied to any aspect in one's life - loss of job, friendships, family etc. "The 30-Day Heartbreak Cure" was an extraordinary read - each page is filled with prescriptive guidance and encouragement needed in a building/re-building a fulfilling life.

I purchased several copies and distributed to friends as gifts. Think of this book as an investment in your life. Not only will you enjoy it, you will persevere. Thank you Catherine Hickland!!
