5.0 out of 5 stars Quite A Thrilling Movie, July 5, 2005
This review is from: 30 Miles (DVD)
Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs (Cooley High, The Jacksons an American Dream, Welcome Back Kotter) stars in this thriller as a upper middle class African-American agent named Anthony on his way to Las Vegas for a bachelor party. Things are looking great, he has closed a big deal and he drives past a hitch hiker on the side of the road. He picks up this wacked out guy named Ernie. What is really hard to understand about this film is that on several occassions Anthony gets the chance to see just how crazy Ernie is and still stays with him. It gets unbelievable after while. They bond by telling child hood stories, but the viewer really can't really understand WHY Anthony would put himself out there for this complete stranger. They share story after story after story and Anthony seems not to worry about his own schedule or situation. Maybe he was lonely. What is quite clear is that Ernie is nuts and Anthony is a little nuts to stay in the car with him. You have to watch this movie for yourself, it's really good.

5.0 out of 5 stars REVIEW OF THE FILM "30 MILES", October 4, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 30 Miles (DVD)
First off, I have to admit that I am a die-hard Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs fan. I personally feel that he is one of the most underrated Black actors in Hollywood. He brings dignity, intensity and fantastic acting to whatever role he plays, and his performance in this film certainly lives up to this expectation. This movie is great, and the ending is something that you would just not anticipate; particularly because of how the movie begins, and of the first meeting between the two main characters. I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone who is a Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs fan. A must see!

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Movie, August 19, 2007
This review is from: 30 Miles (DVD)
Not much to be said. For there only being 2 main characters in this movie (and it being some-what low budget) it was a great movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars Social Commentary and Suspense, August 16, 2005

In his debut as director, Ryan Harper delves into class and race relations in the conversations between a yuppie African-American who stops to help a down-and-out white guy in the middle of the desert. But all the while, we later learn, what is discussed is not by chance, but a clever plan to . . . Ah, you'll have to see the movie to find out the surprising climax. A great stereotype-breaking examination of human nature. I hope we get more from Mr. Harper in the near future.
