5.0 out of 5 stars A brief but highly useful introduction to the world of learning, September 17, 2010

This review is from: The 30-Second Encyclopedia of Learning and Performance: A Trainer's Guide to Theory, Terminology, and Practice (Paperback)
The "30-Second Encyclopedia of Learning and Performance" is not the best book if you are looking for an impressive looking volume to sit on your shelf to build credibility with the great unwashed. It is, however, the simplest explanation of every important development in the history of learning and performance. It also explains the contribution and meaning of the most important individuals, theories, vocabulary and practices in learning design and knowledge management.

I read the book looking for blind spots in the authors understanding of what can be considered important in Learning and Performance and found he covered, albeit superficially, virtually everything that is significant in the field. Granted, the treatment is little more than a shallow description but I have never used a book that sparked as many creative solutions and led me into as many successful investigations. The thorniest challenges lead me to the book and then, going through the little blurbs on each idea, I know where to go to do further research. Whether you are new to Learning and Development and need a primer, or you are a grizzled old veteran like me, this book deserves a place if not on your bookshelf, then in your top right hand desk drawer.
