3.0 out of 5 stars not what I thought September 6, 2012

I thought this book was going to have some creative ideas about what to do when you are thirty. Yeah, not so much. It is basically a comilation of short essays from a bunch of thirty somethings. Had I known that I would be getting advice on how to live life from a group of my peers, I would not have bought this book. Let's be real here. You are only starting to really "get it" when you turn 30. I will say that the contributors to this book are all successful people. Some of them do "get it" and have very insightful and entertaining essays, but some of them clearly just don't. The Essay by Rachel Sklar was gag worthy! She tells you, in a very condescending way, that "growing up isn't that bad." She then goes on to say that you need to do the following mega important things now that you are a grown-up:Find a designer that flatters you, men need to actually buy a tux (you know..for all those fancy black tie affairs that you will be attending now that you're a grown-up), find jeans that look great on you and buy three pairs of them, learn about wine, and yadda yada yadda. THat may be fine advice for those socialites living in the big cities, but it had absolutely zero relevance to a hard-working, midwestern, country girl. Nope. That essay wasn't worthy of the paper it was printed on. Like I said, there were a few very insightful essays in there that i did take something from. So I guess this book wasn't a complete waste of my time.

This was purchased as a gift for my sister's boyfriend who turned 30 this year...and to my surprise, he has actually used the book for some ideas of what to do as he approaches his big milestone! Couldn't ask for a better gift...something he actually found fun, and used!!

Love it, great ideas.

Recommend for any one who is not sure of career or maybe too sure of their current direction in life at age 30.
