5.0 out of 5 stars My most-used cookbook
I have had this book about a year, and I have tried about 3/4 of the recipes. Only one reject so far - and some of the recipes are terrific. I like to cook, and the ease of preparation is just about right for me for everyday meals - not so simple that the cookbook is unnecessary, but usually not so involved that I can't make something from the book each evening. 3.0 out of 5 stars A great place to start if you are counting calories.
This book would be better if it had pictures of any of the dishes, the only picture is on the cover, also most of the dishes are almost exactly the same. If you don't like green or red peppers or cumin I don't suggest you buy this book!

I also liked that her recipes were creative - not the usual thing that is in every other lo-cal cookbook. The other plus is that they are not full of weird ingredients that you would never use again outside of that recipe. If you like to cook and could spend about 30-45 minutes making dinner, and want different, tasty lo-cal meals that use on-hand ingredients, this is your book.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you want to eat healthier, this is the cookbook for you!, October 8, 1999
This review is from: The 300-Calorie One-Dish Meal Cookbook: Fast and Fabulous Recipes for Easy Low-Calorie, Low-Fat Dinners (Paperback)
We switched to a low fat diet because of a family history of heart disease. This cookbook made the transition effortless. We have tried 3 dozen recipes and have liked them all. My husband, who is a vegetable hater, is even eating squash and enjoying it! The recipes are so delicious, that my husband asks 'Are you sure this is low-fat?' If you want to eat healthier, without feeling deprived, this is the cookbook for you!

I find the only time I am really successful eating healthfully is when I have a simple, good tasting eating plan that fits into my lifetstyle. I was raised on FOOD so a dry grilled chicken breast and plainly dressed salad greens just doesn't do it for me. But leaving the house at 7am returning around 7pm I find it too difficult to research, plan and prepare more interesting dishes. If you enjoy being involved in the food you eat rather than just scarfing down whatever fast-food or prepared item is around then this book should be great for you too. The low-fat, low-sodium and super quick cleanup are great bonuses. 95% of the meals I've tried so far have been really good. Don't expect the richness of a gourmet meal - you just won't get that with low-fat, low-sodium cooking. But having said that what I love about these dishes is that the ingredients and flavors are complex enough to make them fun to prepare and very satisfying to eat. Finally the built-in portion control facilitates easy dieting as well. Great job.

Once again and out of date cookbook with very little nutrional information about the recipe you are making. I was so hopeful that this book would be good as with the 400 calorie meal book. But the recipes are out of date. the nutrional facts are just of Fat, and maybe sugar.

I was so excited to get this cookbook because I had just come off Jenny Craig. Boy was I disappointed. This book was written in 1992 or at least that is the copy write date. But before I even looked that up I noticed the recipes used ingredients that were either used years ago or there are better options out there.

If you are looking for a cookbook with low calorie meals that taste good. Unfortunately this one isn't going to do it. Everything is fried in the pan with a small amount of oil instead of using cooking spray. Plus boullion (spelling) granulars. White wine. These are common ingredients. I made one recipe and the chicken was tasteless.

This review is from: The 300-Calorie One-Dish Meal Cookbook: Fast and Fabulous Recipes for Easy Low-Calorie, Low-Fat Dinners (Paperback)
I just purchased this book and page 67 is the 1st recipe I tried. My husband and I both loved it. I look forward to trying many more of the recipes. I also have Ms. Hughes, 1200 calorie a day and 4 course 400 calorie meal book.
