Biography

The Pineapple Thief was formed by Bruce Soord, in 1999. Initially a solo studio project, the band has grown into a globally gigging outfit, with 7 albums under their belt and an ever increasing army of fans throughout the world. The band name is derived from an obscure American film called Eve’s Bayou, in which there is a scene where a young girl steals a pineapple (Scene 29 on the DVD ... Editorial Reviews

2009 two CD collection from the modern Prog Rock band. Last year, The Pineapple Thief released the critically acclaimed album, Tightly Unwound, their seventh overall. While the album was many people's introduction to the band, they have actually spent the past nine years quietly building up a dedicated fan base across the globe, selling over 25,000 records and nurturing their 'bittersweet' Progressive sound over six previous albums. 3000 Days collects highlights from these albums and provides an overview of the band's career before signing with K-Scope.

Since I discovered The Pineapple Thief's "Tightly Unwound" earlier this year, I've been searching for more of their music. Apparantly because of contractual reasons, their earlier recordings are no longer avaliable. That's a real shame because "Tightly Unwound" is a superb piece of music. It has been in constant rotation in my CD player since I bought it several months ago. Recently I learned that the band would be releasing a compilation of their earlier cd's, and I was anxious to hear where they came from musically. The wait was well worth it. This 2 disc set is in the same vein as "Tightly Unwound" - finely crafted, melodic work that shifts effortlessly from quite introspection to powerful rock. I would recommending getting both releases and thoroughly digging into "3000 Days" before moving on to "Tightly Unwound". Hearing their music develope and mature chronoligically is a great way to discover their work. I've also read they are completing a new release for 2010. I'll be buying it the day it comes out.

I've read reviews comparing The Pineapple Thief to Porcupine Tree and Pink Floyd, among others. PT and PF are two of my favorite bands, and TPT sits very comfortably beside them. If English rock that plays in a minor key is your cup of tea, then you owe it to yourself to check out both of these releases.

I've been curious about this band for some time. I like a lot of stuff that comes out on the kscope label so I finally decided to purchase this 2-CD compilation. I am glad I did. There is not a bad song on here. There is definitely a Radiohead (Bends/OK Computer) and Porcupine Tree (Stupid Dream/Lightbulb Sun) vibe present in their music but at the same time being unique to themselves. I am so pleased with this band that I have now ordered "Tightly Unwound" and look forward to listening to it and any future releases. Hopefully their back catalogue will be re-issued.

I've been listening to Pineapple Thief for a few year now and absolutely love these guys.
With elements of progressive rock combined with beautiful melodic twists and turns this band has quickly became one of my all time favorites. Most of the releases from this band are impossibly hard to find and long out of print, but I've managed to seek out and find every single release that they've put out, and I still can't get enough!!!

This release is a carefully chosen, remixed and remastered compilation listing of some terrific work from the band. Just some of the re-worked material, such as '137', makes this compilation a 'must-have' for Pineapple Thief fans, as well as a great representation of the band through the years for new fans as well.

Tightly Unwound might be thier most successful commerical release yet, and deservingly so, but my favorite has been 'What We Have Sown'. If you can find this, it is also 'strongly' recommended.
Great Musicians, Great Compositions, Great Compilation!!!!

KUDOs to a band that will certainly break some big-time international success in the upcoming years if they can manage to continue as they have been over the last few years.

Now - If we can only get them to re-release the remainder of thier catelogue......

Since signing to K Scope from the Cyclops label a couple of years ago, Bruce Soord and Pineapple Thief have obviously attracted many new converts to their melodic alternative progressive music. I came across Pineapple Thief nearly 10 years ago and I sincerely believed they peaked during the Variations of a Dream and 12 Stories Down releases. Subsequent releases have had their moments, but overall they didn't captivate me like the above-mentionned duo. They even had the cheek to release full Bonus Discs with those releases (8 days AND 8 days later) that warranted a proper release in their own right. I would have loved to have seen one of those songs featured on this compilation (the beautiful "5 minute song" a classic example). However, the good news is that their latest release "Someone here is missing" is a brilliant return to form and my belief in this band is fully restored. Pineapple Thief have done a very decent job in song selection of the tracks as there are quite a few to choose from. Remember, there are NO HITS here - Basically just band and fan faves. Personally, besides 5 minutes, other songs I would have included would be "Prey for me", "Its you and me", "Run me through", No-one leaves this earth", Catch a jumping fool" and "Watch the world turn grey".
Heres my sour point, and it is not about the music on this compilation but more about the efforts and passions of the Record Labels (And possibly the Musicians too) in general to give us, the fans from the beginning, a new product to savour in the form of listenning and not just for the collection. I have every Pineapple Thief album including the September 7 sampler so kindly offered personally free of charge from Bruce so why would I want this collection.
