Years ago, I created my own special scratch pad with my photo on it. When I introduce myself, I handed people a free scratch pad. Soon, the whole town was making grocery lists on my face.
#60 Howdy, Partner - Diane Perlmutter
Want to increase the scope of your marketing efforts without spending any additional dollars? It may sound too good to be true, but you can do just that by partnering with other companies that sell complementary yet noncompetitive products and services to your target market. In this way, you get twice the exposure at half the cost.
For instance, if you run a Web design firm, you might want to link up with a local Internet service provider that can pass leads on to you. Or if you sell nutritional supplements, you might want to join forces with a local gym where you could give seminars about nutrition to health conscious members.
#115 Don't Forget the Little People - Guy Kawasaki
Learn how to "suck down." That's right. All "strategic" plans aside, getting new business often comes down to whether one secretary likes you or not. If you're rude to Mr. Big's assistant, you risk getting stuck in the "Sorry, he's in a meeting" zone. Be cordial to everyone you deal with - secretaries, receptionists, assistants, doormen, etc.
People who are in sales are well aware of how important this rule is. A fellow who covers a broad territory for his products never makes a stop without leaving something with the secretary or receptionist. He makes notes about what their kids are doing, where they took their last vacation, and what their new car looks like. Remember, sucking up changes the color of your nose; sucking down changes the color of your balance sheet.
#153 No Kidding! - Betty Hoeffner
When pitching stories to journalists, make sure your story suggestion passes the "No kidding" test. A journalists job is to tell his or her readers, listeners or viewers something they didn't know yesterday. If you can make a journalist say "No kidding - I didn't know that, " your success rate will be much higher. A press release that contains starling statistics about something relevant to your business, outrageous anecdotes about your business practices, or little- known historical facts about your industry or product can add sparkle to an otherwise dull press release.
A family that owns a dude ranch delights in the fact that six generations of sons have managed the ranch since the 1890s. So when passing on the word about what a terrific vacation or meeting site the ranch can be, they're sure to include both the historical significance of the owners and a few of the romantic stories that go along with life on a ranch.
#303 Love Will Keep Us Together - Michel Roux
Have fun by doing what you love. It's the surest way to delight customers. If you love what you do, it will show, and your genuine enthusiasm will be infectious. The more excited you are about your business, the more excited your employees and customers will be, too.
On woman loved your panes - stain glass panes, that is. She was nuts about stained glass and after taking a number of classes, opened her own supply shop and gallery. Her enthusiasm was contagious - soon enough she had plenty of customers and commissions.

Lots of blank space and no substance.,

I was surprised at the lack of information in this book (I asked for and got my money back). My first clue was that the font size of the tip number is almost as large as the text below it. One-third of each page is taken up by a number, one-third text, and one-third white space. It was a huge disappointment considering the price. The cover is filled with misleading hype about how great the information is, how "actual" examples are described and how it is guaranteed to boost your business (I didn't find a guarantee on the inside if it didn't live up to expectation). The information inside was lacking. Most of the tips could be reduced to one or two sentences instead of two paragraphs of fluff. Examples were anecdotal at best. If you are serious about marketing and boosting your business, I recommend anything by Jay Conrad Levinson, Dan Kennedy, Lisa Shaw, Seth Godin or "Getting Business To Come To You," by Sarah and Paul Edwards.

I found the book to be a very enjoyable read. Not deep and difficult to comprehend...but light, innovative, and enlightening -- full of great marketing tips that are easy to implement and very enjoyable to take advantage of. GREAT information for entrepreneurs! Each page contains a new marketing idea, and you can read a few pages, put it down, and return to it later for more ideas. Easy to digest. It's a winner!

No substance! Very disappointing.,

This book really stunk! I was expecting to get information about marketing, but it was filled with a lot of fluff like "be sure to have a well-written marketing plan"...gee, do you think? It wasn't a how-to at all, just little quips of very generic advice, without any real examples to back up what people were saying. I was very disappointed.
