5.0 out of 5 stars Great for outdoor cats and ferals
This heated kitty pad makes a great addition to a winter shelter for outdoor cats. I believe in keeping cats indoors, but if you love cats, you may find yourself dealing with someone else's outdoor cat, or maybe even ferals. I looked at a similar product at PetsMart but it was marked for indoor use only.

1.0 out of 5 stars It go so hot - it melted!
We bought this for our indoor cats and they loved it for a few months. Then they stopped using it. We thought nothing of it until we went to wash the fleece pad. The entire heavy plastic base had gotten SO HOT that it distorted and curled up! No extension cords were used and it was plugged directly to a 120V 15amp outlet.

The heating element of this kitty "pad" is inside an air-tight black casing that feels like thick plastic. The cord is 5 1/2 feet long, insulated and covered with a steel coil so that you don't have to worry about a critter chewing through it. The pad is big enough for one cat and luckily, it fit perfectly inside of the small igloo I set up on my back deck. The instructions say do not immerse in water, so the pad shouldn't be used in an open area, though I think it would do ok on a covered deck that stayed dry most of the time...and it makes sense to try to provide shelter against the elements for the cat's sake, anyway, so if you're providing a good, dry shelter for the cat, then the pad should be ok, too.

I placed my igloo under a patio table, which I then covered with a waterproof tarp (using patio chairs covered in shower curtain liners as entryways), so the pad isn't exposed to any moisture at all. The kitty has used the igloo and the heating pad many days this winter - well worth the investment.

By the way, if you order directly through the manufacturer's catalog, they make the heating pads in semi-circles specially sized to fit igloos...but this small cat pad fit in my igloo just fine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Peace of Mind for Your Outdoor Cats, December 8, 2007
This review is from: K&H 3093 Extreme Weather Kitty Pad with Fleece Cover (Misc.)
I purchased this pad for use in an outdoor feral cat house. I use it in combination with a thermocube so it turns on at 35 degrees and off at 45 degrees. I keep the pad, cord, and thermocube completely inside the cat house and run an outdoor extension cord to an outdoor outlet. This has worked perfectly and is so much easier than the microwaved heating disks that only last for a few hours and don't keep a mild consistent heat. Our outdoor kitty seems to love this arrangement too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Now going into our 3rd winter, and it's still working, November 3, 2009

Updated 12/29/11 It's still working fine going into our third winter. I am planning on buying another one for another perch. The cat loves it.

Updated 11/5/2010: Still working after one year. Our cat seems to like it, and with only a 40W rating, it uses little electricity. I have been keeping a large bath towel over the supplied cover, and it works fine. The cat is nice and toasty. I have also upgraded my review from 3 stars to 4.

Like another recent review, this is a hard plastic heating board, not a flexible pad like a human heating pad. Let's see how this goes. Instructions say not to cover it with anything other than the special pad provided. I think the manufacturer wants you to buy their covers. With only 40w output, anything would probably work. I can't imagine a 40w output would burn out with another cover on top of it. It you are expecting something soft and flexible, keep looking.

I bought this for a ferrel cat that showed up and decided to stay..
I put it in a doghouse and once I did that the cat spent most of the winter inside the doghouse staying nice and warm all winter long..
A great way to keep outdoor pets nice and warm and no more worries about them on those cold days...

Have to agree with the other reviewers - this was a great purchase for an outdoor feral cat. We use an outdoor extension cord and put the heated pad inside a small doghouse. Kitty LOVES this mat and it's held up well so far (going on second year).

5.0 out of 5 stars Great heating pad for your outdoor friends!, January 22, 2008
I searched quite some time for a way to keep a couple of feral cats (that adopted us) warm during the winter when I came across these heating pads. After trapping them to get them spayed and neutered, we set about making comfortable beds for them on our covered porch. Concerned about the cold, I tried these pads. The company was very friendly and helpful. The pads arrived much faster than expected and look to be of great quality. There is a nice washable cover included and the cords are wrapped in metal so the cat can't nibble on it & be harmed. The moment they found out the pads were in their beds they rarely leave them. I can actually even pet one of them now! If I were to speak for the cats, I'd say these are a real hit. I plugged both of them into a power strip with a switch so I can just hit it with my foot to turn them off during the day when the cats are out making their rounds.

5.0 out of 5 stars Winter is here and our stray cat loves this pad!, November 23, 2008
This review is from: K&H 3093 Extreme Weather Kitty Pad with Fleece Cover (Misc.)
We have a stray cat that comes every day for food and water. We were worried about winter and how he would survive so we got an insulated dog/cat house. We wanted additional warmth for him so we bought this heated cat pad. Winter weather arrived about 2 weeks ago and he has been in his nice warm house ever since. He loves the warmth generated from this pad and spends most of the day and night sleeping on it. I have only one negative comment. The pad is made of a hard substance and we had a hard time getting it to fit into the house. If it were somehow flexible this pad would be absolutely perfect.

5.0 out of 5 stars My cat loves the K & H Outdoor Heated Kitty Pad!!, February 6, 2010

This review is from: K&H 3093 Extreme Weather Kitty Pad with Fleece Cover (Misc.)
We live in Orlando. This winter the temperatures dropped into the 20's at night with a high in the 40's during the day. A cat adopted us. She's a spayed female. She refuses to come into the house. She won't even come in the garage. She prefers our front porth. Since we purchased the K & H heated pad, she never leaves the porch. She's on the pad all day. It helped her survive the winter and she's still using it. She's approximately 8 years old and this must feel good to her. We also put tarp around the porch to shelter her from the wind. We purchased a plastic box (like the ones used for Christmas decorations). Cut a hole for her to enter, and turned it upside down. We placed the pad on the top of the box and that's where she spends her days and nights. (she prefers the top of the box instead of going inside). Without this pad, I don't know how she would have survived the winter. The pad heats to her body temperature. I've had others that were not as warm as this. I will soon pack it away for next year. If I have to purchase another I would get the same heated pad.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Product Can Make All The Difference, January 5, 2010
This review is from: K&H 3093 Extreme Weather Kitty Pad with Fleece Cover (Misc.)
A few years ago, a stray female cat delivered a litter in our back yard. After learning about the local animal control policy on unclaimed cats - and after many unsuccessful attempts to find them a home - we decided to maintain and care for the cats ourselves. During the winter, our three cats spend their cold nights (and days) in a modular-style shelter we created which includes three of these heated Kitty Pads. We are now well into our third winter with our "outside cats," and I can honestly say that I'm not sure our trio would have survived without the warmth provided by these heated pads - especially at night. We have had one pad fail during the warranty period, but it was quickly replaced by the manufacturer. Overall, I give this product my highest recommendation - BUY IT. For outside cats in winter, it can make all the difference. (BTW: I didn't see them on the page, but the approximate dimensions for this pad are 12.5" x 18.5" with 5' "wired" cord.)
