Book Description

You don’t have to be married very long to discover that your husband will not live up to all your expectations. And even if he is Mr. Wonderful, he will still do things that disappoint you…and even make you unhappy. But being a happy wife has more to do with choice than circumstance. It begins with your personal decision to choose happiness. And it’s characterized by a thread of thanksgiving that runs through your life, bringing with it contentment and cheerfulness. In 31 Days to Becoming a Happy Wife, Arlene Pellicane explores five character traits you can choose to develop in your journey toward happiness. Organized into 31 daily readings, her biblically based insights will show you the way to become Hopeful—believe that a happy marriage is within your reach; Adaptable—learn to be open to change; Positive—choose to be more optimistic; Purposeful—discover a new vision for your role as a wife; and Yielded—experience joy as you submit to God’s plan. Commit yourself to this month-long quest to becoming a happy wife and discover newfound joy for yourself and for your husband. The book includes a “Happy Wives Club Discussion Guide,” filled with thought-provoking questions for each daily reading that will enhance your personal or group study.

5.0 out of 5 stars If Wifey Ain't Happy, Ain't Nobody Happy ;) February 13, 2014
Format:Paperback
I thought I didn't need this book. Most days, if someone asked me if I were a happy wife, I would reply with a rousing, "Sure am!" But I wonder, if the same question were asked of my husband, if he would be so rousingly sure. Would he say that on a regular basis I was, "Hopeful, Adaptable, Positive, Purposeful, and Yielded"? I may be able to smile and keep things under the rug, but the aforementioned quality traits are what makes me a sincerely happy wife. Not only that, becoming a wife who is Hopeful, Adaptable, Positive, Purposeful, and Yielded takes the undue pressure off of my husband, whose job is NOT my happiness (providing and guiding is hard enough)!

Reading Arlene Pellicane's book, 31 Days to Becoming a Happy Wife, I realized that happiness does not come from my circumstances or what my husband does for me, but from my attitude and outlook, and especially my faith in God, who is my true and lasting source of happiness. Each day and with every circumstance, when I take my eyes off of my human husband and put them onto Christ, my heart is full, soft, satisfied, and consequently, sweetly overflowing to my husband and family. What I love about Arlene's book is that she not only turns my eyes to Christ for the happiness I need, she then turns turns my eyes to my husband, so that I see, respond to, and pursue him with a happy heart.

The chapters are meant to be read as an enjoyable, one-a-day vitamin that builds us up to become more of what Christ has made us to be as wives. I love that it's entitled, "Becoming..." because as we look to Jesus, scripture says we "are transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another" (2 Cor 3:18).

5.0 out of 5 stars Happiness is up to me January 22, 2014
Format:Paperback
Arlene's Books always remind me that I am in charge of my choices, reactions, and feelings. My husband is not responsible for making me happy. I know not all husbands are like mine but I have found that when I do try to serve him and give him things he wants , he tries to serve me and give me things I want. I also know that just cause I am angry with him and he is in the doghouse, I can still be happy. I may not be happy with him But I can be happy overall. I love the thoughts and prayers at the end of each chapter. I look forward to using this book for a women's small group study.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for wives January 21, 2014
Format:Paperback
31 Days to Becoming a Happy Wife by Arlene Pellicane is a practical and insightful book for wives to embrace. Every chapter begins with a Bible verse and a true (and sometimes funny story) that Arlene shares to illustrate her point. She takes the acronym HAPPY and writes 31 short chapters filled with wisdom, guidance and balance for a wife to ultimately make the choice in how she will choose happiness. These are the keys to happiness. HAPPY stands for Hopeful, Adaptable, Positive, Purposeful and Yielded. Take the marriage quiz at the beginning and determine if you are a happy wife. Each chapter ends with a picture for you to create in your mind and a prayer. There is also a discussion guide included that would be a great study for many happy wives!

Arlene's candid and personal approach to expressing her views are very engaging. I agree with her approach to marriage and I highly value what she shares in light of God's Word. She makes me think differently about marriage, myself and my husband. Arlene is honest and practical in this new book that will help wives to truly strive to be a happy wife. What a refreshing and delightful book to read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Proverbs 31 Women in 2014 January 24, 2014
Format:Paperback
Arlene has written an incredible guide for women seeking God's best for their marriage. She uses everyday language full of humor, wisdom, practical tips and prayers for the day. Openly sharing of occasional struggles with her own husband James (which usually bring a smile) her candor is a great look at the ups and downs of a good, solid marriage.

Life can be hard. It isn't always roses & champagne. Covering a wide variety of subjects, the honesty in Arlene's writing is a refreshing look at pursuing a godly marriage and building a stronger home.

31 Days to Becoming a Happy Wife is a beautiful book to give to women for Valentine's Day, as a wedding gift, or on any occasion. It would also be a perfect book to use as a small group study with your church's women's group. I highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Resource for Wives and Women January 21, 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I Love this book! It is a great resource for wives but also for all women. My small group is going through this book together and I have a few gals who aren't married yet - but are still finding the ideas practical and applicable. I especially love that it is a daily reading - it gives encouragement for the day and helps us stay plugged into a daily devotional. As a wife and mom, I need the daily encouragement and principles to keep me focused and help me feel "normal" - it's good to know that the things I struggle with are shared by other ladies and there is a way to see the light in the middle of the craziness.

I definitely recommend this book and know you will be able to apply it to your life and marriage as well.
