Book Description

Journey with Sarah Mae for 31 Days as you get your home and your heart in order. Give Sarah Mae 31 days and she'll give you not only a cleaner home, but a vision for one.

31 Days to Clean is about the "why" and the vision and the heart for taking care of your domain. Each day you will be encouraged with some thoughts and ideas on the heart of cleaning, and then you will put those ideas to action.

After each days reading, you will be given two challenges (based off of Mary and Martha in the bible):

The Mary Challenge -Something you do that encourages/engages your heart
The Martha Challenge - Specific cleaning tasks

31 Days to Clean is a faith journey towards ruling, subduing, and loving. It is about forgoing perfection and instead choosing life.
*31 Days to Clean is written with a Christian perspective

"What do you think of when you consider doing laundry, washing dishes, and cleaning the dreaded bathroom? Are you discouraged? Do you feel overwhelmed? I have to say I feel that way ... often. In all my live-long days I haven't seen my home as a ministry. Can I serve Jesus and others as I clean my home? Sarah Mae proves I can. As a wife, mom, mother-in-law and mentor to teenage moms I'm going to cherish this book and share what I learned. Cleaning is more than just fighting germs. It can be a ministry of the heart!"
-Tricia Goyer, author of 25 books, include Blue Like Play Dough: The Shaping of Motherhood in the Grip of God

Editorial Reviews

5.0 out of 5 stars Great all around April 13, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Sarah Mae does a great job of combining the practical with the quintessence of the homemaker.

Yes, we need to keep our homes clean and in order, but are we missing the point? Why are we keeping our homes in order and who are we doing it for? Are we remembering the root of service should be planted in love?

"31 Days to Clean" gets to the center of these questions by challenging you to evaluate your own heart.

Are our priorities straight? Do we take joy in what we do? Are we lazy? Overwhelmed? What can we do about it?

There are so many things to learn about ourselves through this 31 day journey. In addition, each day has a challenge for the heart and a challenge for the home (cleaning). The challenges for the home are based on a Spring cleaning schedule. Things we don't often get to.

I highly recommend this book to every homemaker. Sarah Mae is real about her own struggles in homemaking which makes it easy for me (the reader) to relate.

"31 Days to Clean" is not just about cleaning your home; it's about cleaning your heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Motivation April 13, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I ordered this book because I need motivation and inspiration. I have been stuck in a rut for awhile now and haven't felt like cleaning. This book has already given me the push that I needed to clean my house not only for my family and myself, but for reasons beyond that. I love that there are small do-able tasks each day to clean but also a task to give inspiration to keeping a clean house. Love everything I have read!!! Thank you to Sarah Mae for such an amazing resource. I will be giving this book to each of my girls as they move out, so that they will be blessed with this great book as well!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Cleaning Book Full of Grace! April 26, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
What I think is so great about the concept of this book is that it is all broken down into manageable pieces. You can get your cleaning done without putting the rest of your life on hold! It's perfect for busy women at home, when often all we have is a minute here and a minute there. I also love all the encouragement to keep our homemaking "life-giving," and the focus on love and grace. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Needed Blessing! May 28, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I had decided to take on my house, it had been misbehaving and I was through with letting it slide. I needed some kind of help though. I am ADD, my husband is ADD, we have 4 boys the youngest just 8 weeks old and I was going crazy!! My house was multiply messes left and right. I came across a blog, and she was promoting Sarah Mae's book 31 Days to Clean having a Martha Style House the Mary Way as a 31 day challenge to get your house and CLEANING SELF whipped into shape. I have always loved reading about Mary & Martha in the scriptures and learning how to walk that fine line between their personality styles myself. So I bought the book. THAT IS THE BEST DECISION I HAVE MADE. Sarah Mae not only breaks down the cleaning into a month's schedule, she touches on the organizing of your home as well and helps you conquer your cleaning outlook, making a change for the better. It is worth the small price! Once you buy it make the commitment, your house, your husband and your self will love you for it. I love my outlook on cleaning my humble abode. Thank you Sarah Mae for your desire to help others with this daunting task!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Encouragement!!! April 16, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book has been a great encouragement to me. I have been very frustrated that my home isn't what I want it to be. I am tired of blaming everyone else for all that they don't do. I am tired of sitting around pouting and refusing to do it for them, all the while things get worse. Thank you for reminding me of the purpose and the beauty in serving my family, it truly is only my fault that things aren't the way I would like them to be. It is high time I get off my bum and serve them, without getting too overwelmed and also by not just cleaning my home, but also my heart.

Thank you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Take back your home! June 6, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I was sent this ebook at no charge to review with no expectations of what kind of review I would leave. But I have to tell you this book, I love this book. It's not just a "clean this today, and this how you do it" kind of book. It follows the style of approaching the home presented by Mary and Martha in Luke 10:30 - 42 of the Holy Bible. Mary sat at the feet of Jesus listening to his teaching, while Martha buzzed around the house preparing dinner and the home for her visitors.

This book helps one have it both ways. Keeping home with all the other Martha's with suggested chores and challenges. But it also enriches our hearts with Mary lessons, such as reminding us why we want to keep a home for our families. It challenges you to enrich yourself so you may extend more to your family. But above all, she teaches grace to ourselves. No longer beating up on ourself when we don't measure up to our own expectations.

The chores were a bit intense for me. It is intense spring cleaning type of list. I'm recovering from a long season of illness so I was not able to do everything on these lists. However, I did what I could in each area of the home. If the chore was to hand wash the blinds, I took down the curtains and tossed them in the washer. I adapted. No one wants to spend every moment of the day cleaning, not even every day spent in doing intense work. But as presented in this book, a steady course will allow you to open your home and enjoy it more consistently without panic when the door bell rings.

I highly recommend this book, not only to full time homemakers but to those who work full time out of the home to return to work full time IN the home.
