31" RC HT-2879 Destroyer War Ship

I purchased one of these from another vender back in 2007 or so. I was surprised by the level of detail; it is more like a scale model than a toy in appearance. Some of the finer details break off easily but this does not affect the function of the boat. It looks very much like a Russian Sovremenny Class DDG in 1/200 scale. After having it for a while I disassembled it and painted more to scale, it looks great as is but with a nice scale model like paint job it is even better.

The boat runs real well forward, reverse, left and right. There is no "throttle" just go or no go. The boat runs well in a small lake and does not get too upset if the water is not glass smooth. .

It has a neat safety feature: the motors will not run unless the boat is in the water or some other form of conductor touching both propeller shafts. I found this out when bench testing the boat before I used it in water. The information on the box is not real clear about this feature.

Update: 7/1/10 After a fair amount of use my first one of these sat for a year or so. The next time I went to use it the motors had seized up due to water intrusion and rust. I had already purchased more of these and placed one in service. This newer one has some minor changes that include less top side penetrations and water drain holes to help in drying out the internals. In addition to that, I disassembled the ship to paint it and during reassembly I sealed the deck to hull seam with RTV.

I still think that for around $50.00 (including shipping) this ship is a good deal for what it is.

For something smaller and cheaper the "HT" torpedo boat is another HT boat that I found to be quite good for the money.

I was so shocked at the detail and durability of this ship for the price, my son was so excited that he had to get in the bathtub with it immediately even though it took up almost the whole tub!!!!!

I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the box. The detail is quite good, the ship handles well. Only issue is the instructions are in broken English, but understandable. Great fun.

Worked for one day then the motor stoped running. Looks nice and has lots of delicate details that are easly broken off. It would be better as a display decoration then an actual remote control boat.

There is no instruction and I can't find a switch to turn on the boat. Battery is charged, the remote has a new battery but no power to the props. How can I enjoy this toy if I don't know how to turn it on?
