Dado Table Insert,

This review is from: DELTA 34-264 8-Inch Dado Insert for DELTA Contractors Saws and Right-Tilt Unisaws (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have been using a wooden table insert for years with my 8 inch Delta stacked dado head and have always had troubles with it depending on the weather. It would strink or expand and very seldom sit flat. Not anymore, this insert will take all those problems away, and for the time committment, you could not build a better one for the price. Why mess around making something like this when you can spend that precious time building a masterpiece. I highly recommend this and I wish I would have bought it with the dado head cutter.

did not fit Delta Contractor saw correctly,

I got this insert for my Delta contractor saw.It is the correct model insert for this saw, just not made exactly right. The insert was slightly to large for the opening on the saw and would not fit in. I had to use a bench grinder to remove just a little material from around the insert before it would fit. Now that it fits, it works well.

Its delivered to your house and you think that you are now ready to cut dadoes on your table saw, and for making dadoes on large peices of plywood, your right. However, do not be fooled like I was when you think you are ready for all dado cuts with this insert. When you try to cut a more detailed cut such as a tongue and groove joint, where the height of the dado will not be hidden, you will notice that the insert is far from flush with the top of the table, making the height of the cut on smaller peices noticeably inconsistent. To fix this problem, I had to run out to my local hardware store, fork out more of my money to replace the four very small screws that came with the insert, and play with them to get the height flush. The unfortunate part is that these screws have to be just about perfect in length to make this adjustment or the heads of the screws will stick out beyond the countersunk holes. What I would really like to know is how a company with such a reputable name like Delta, can manufacture an insert for its own table saw and still require the consumer to make adjustments like this? Frankly, I am growing tired of building quality furniture with tools that lack the same quality.

Insert Doesn't Fit!!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: DELTA 34-264 8-Inch Dado Insert for DELTA Contractors Saws and Right-Tilt Unisaws (Tools & Home Improvement)
I own a Delta 10" Professional model table saw. One of the first and most necessary accessories I bought was a dado blade which entailed buying the table insert. After double checking model numbers, etc. to make sure I was buying the right thing, I got it home and it didn't fit. I had to use my angle grinder and quite a bit of time to make it fit. The insert works great now, but it was extremely frustrating having to "custom fit" it to my table saw, especially when the model number was supposed to fit properly.

I'm sure this throat plate is fine for the correct saw, but Amazon has poor lableing. I had to return it. Listing it as the insert for 'Delta Contractors Saws' is an error. It fits right-tilt contractors saws, not left tilt. The left-tilt contractors saw throat plate is listed as the one for left-tilt Delta Unisaw, but is the right item for their left tilt contractors saw as well.

I bought this because the item description made me think it would fit all contractor's saws and right-tilt Unisaws. (I'm new to woodworking, so I didn't realize that wouldn't make much sense.) Be aware, this insert only fits older, right-tilt Delta contractor's saws. It does not fit the new left-tilt models. So, I don't really have a complaint about this item. It just didn't fit my saw. It looked like it would serve the purpose it was made for, however, I found that buying a zero-clearance insert and making a zero-clearance dado plate was the best way to go for both price and performance.

I finally broke down and bought the dado insert. Packaging was a bit of overkill. It arrived in a box big enough for boots! I have used my dado blade set several times without the insert and finally ordered one. I had ordered another tool from Amazon and added this to the list. I actually got it for $4.00 because I ordered it when Amazon offered $25.00 off a purchase of $125.00. I would recommend adding this to your shopping list when Amazon is offering promotions. It works great and the leveling screws work flawlessly. I would like the insert to come with a mounting screw like the one on the regular insert that came with the saw. It fits perfect in the slot and has a nice weight to it. I have a Delta 36-675 with T2 fence. (Upgraded to a bigger Biesemeyer fence in mid 2006 or so.)Four stars because it costs too much and doesn't have a mounting screw. I am glad I didn't get hurt using my saw without one.

It's so hard finding the right part from Delta's site or here. This is the one you need for a Delta 36-650. Some of the other reviewers mentioned having trouble with the fit, mine worked fine.

Does exactly what it is meant to do. Plain and simple with easy leveling adjustments.
