All in all I think this is a very solid buy for anyone just getting started into woodworking or the DIY’er looking for a table saw to tackle their projects.

The height adjustment knob is flimsy and broke the 5th time I needed to raise the blade.

You get what you pay for and thats what I got: I damn good saw for less than $150.00. I gave it 5 stars because it does what it is supposed to do. Had I paid a penny more, the stars would begin to dim, because will find that the casing is cheap plastic and miter gauge sticks, and the stand is a little clunky. These are things that go away when I use a $600.00 table saw.

I purchased mine a few weeks ago and I will be returning it today. You really do pay for what you get. The Bosch and Dewalt are 2x the price of the Skil but in my opinion, worth the difference. Here is what I don't like about the Skil. 90 degree mider slide that comes with it is flimsy therefore using it to ensure a 90 degree cut is impossible. It really would be an issue because I was planning on building a cross cut sled for my saw anyway but, Skil's designed the two grooves on the face off the table so that building a sled with hardwood slides will not fit. Most table saw's slides are 3/8" which would making a cross cut sled easy to build and use but not Skil. It is hard to really explain, just look at and zoom in on the top of the surface of this saw. I don't know the technical name for them but they are two "gutters" that run parallel to each other. For some reason Skil decided not to make these gutters 3/8" all the way through. There are two teeth on each end of the gutter thus making most of the gutter 3/8" except for the areas where the teeth are and they are less than 3/8". If you are trying to build a cross cut sled like I was and need to have runners on the bottom of the sled that go into these gutters, you either have to engineer your runner to accommodate those teeth or grind them off. I hope my description makes sense. Just compare the pictures of the Skil saw to the Dewalt or Bosch and pay close attention to those gutters. If you don't ever plan on using a cross cut sled, then this Skil saw design won't be a problem.

I got this saw as gift. I was surprised that skil made it with non-standard runner slots. I was tempted to return it, but decided to modify it instead. I had no trouble grinding off the useless teeth in the slots. I then milled oak runners to fit the slots, enabling me to build a crosscut sled, feather-board jigs and any other accessory I needed to add. The next project is to make a zero tolerance plate, since for some reason skil does not offer one and no after-market manufacturer makes one either. Regarding the miter gauge, it IS wobbly but I added a tall hardwood auxiliary fence to it and simply square it to the blade with a triangle before making a cut. This saw is okay for a hobbyist ( I`m a moderately skilled woodworker and had no problem making the necessary modifications ) but this is NOT a saw for someone who requires it to make a living. You get what you pay for, people.

This table saw has a large switch that needs only a slight upwards flick in order to activate the saw. The manual states that there is a safety device, whereby you need to squeeze either side of the switch before it is possible to operate it.

The unit I bought from Amazon did NOT have that safety feature, meaning that it is easy to accidentally switch it on just by brushing against it. This happened to me while the guard was not fully on, and the black metal arm fell on to the spinning blade. I received only a few metal splinters in my arms but it could have been a LOT worse.

If you have bought this saw, check that your switch has this safety feature. I am not happy that I was shipped one without it - but it may have been an isolate occurrence. I called Skil and they said I should request a replacement through Amazon which is what I have done. However, if it is more widespread and saws are shipping without this feature then I think a recall would be necessary.

================

I have now received a replacement: it has the same switch. If the casing had protrusions that mean the switch needs to be squeezed in order to clear, then it would justify the large size of the switch. As it is, this table saw could be sold with an 'easy switch-on' feature. I don't believe this is safe enough, so I can't recommend this table saw to anyone.

I found myself on the market for a table saw for a variety of projects around the house and picked up the SKIL 3410-02 due to the features and the price. First and foremost I’ll say this if you’re on the market for a table saw for fine furniture making this saw is not for you and you shouldn’t expect this to perform as would a high end hybrid or cabinet table saw. This is a great saw for the homeowner/DIY crowd that performs exceptionally well for the cost. Ultra portable so it can be easily moved to your job site. Safety features include a blade guard, anti kickback pawls, riving knife and a push stick. It also features a folding stand which is convenient for setting up the saw at your jobsite which was a plus for me...

After the initial setup and adjustment tuning this saw runs like a dream for me. Follow all necessary outlined in the instructions to ensure your blade and fence are properly aligned and you’ll be on your way. I found that initially the adjustment nut on the fence was a little too tight and didn’t allow for the fence to flow smoothly when moving it across the table. This is specifically called out in the instruction manual as well. So I loosened the nut to where the fence moved smoothly as I moved it to different measurements. Some reviewers also stated that the fence didn’t self align correctly however I’ll say after adjusting my fence its dead on every time. I verified the distance between the blade and the fence at multiple distances for multiple cuts with a tape measure and digital caliper and all were spot on.
