5.0 out of 5 stars Important protection for your RV's solid state components, October 27, 2011
We have a 2004 Journey motorhome. After having had an unfortunate experience with the quasi sine wave inverter supplied with this RV (we burnt out our crt Sony TV while using that poor inverter) we updated our electrical system with a pure sine wave inverter and the surge guard indicated here. After replacing the CRT TV's with HDTV's with all those solid state components, we wanted to protect the TVs and microwave oven with the surge guard.

Good thing we did. On one trip to a state park in in the mountains of Virginia, we plugged into the supplied shore power, and the surge guard would not pass the electric power available at the park. The surge guard analyzes the power, and after 2 minutes 16 seconds of analysis will send the power on to your RV's circuits. Even if it does pass that threshold, it would stop the flow of current if a spike should occur.

I installed my unit after both the shore power and generator inputs (at the transfer switch output) so that power from either the generator or campground supply will pass through the surge guard before continuing on to the power panel in your RV.

Another warning: the terminal screws are tender; don't torque too high. Route your wiring so that there is absolutely no tension on the surge guard terminals. Cable clamps strategically placed are very important in this installation.

5.0 out of 5 stars 50 Amp Surge Guard, August 30, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Their is no way to determine if the product works as stated until their is a proven surge of voltage either directly or indirectly from a nearby lightning strike, or any other adnormality that would produce a voltage spike. I have no reason to doubt the specs. as indicated. It is lightweight and easy to install. The only complaint I would make is for the need to have larger screw holes for the cable wires...not all the wire strands want to go into the small screw hole terminals.
