King: Behind the Scenes

Biography

O.A.R.’s Wind-up Records debut album, King, marks a new beginning for the band, while also paying homage to their past. It is the seventh studio effort in a career that began with their high school recording, The Wanderer. Bringing back the title character from their first album, O.A.R. takes the listener on a journey to discover that what the Wanderer, and the band members themselves, had been… Read more in Amazon's O.A.R. 5.0 out of 5 stars This Cd is Awesome, September 8, 2004

OAR Fan (San Francisco) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 34th & 8th (Audio CD)
I love OAR and when i heard they were coming out with a new live disk, i just had to buy it. There songs live are much better than any of there studio songs. I was a little dissapionted because the disk does not have the awesome cover of "Sunday Bloody Sunday" it is advertised with on this site at all on the CD...maybe it was replaced at the last miunute...who knows. Anyways, if you are new to OAR i suggest you listen to "any time now" before you purchase this CD, this CD, while good, is not as good as there previous live cd release. There are several good new songs on the disk combined with a good mix of old favorites "city on down" and "crazy game of poker." Overall i would tell everyone to buy this CD; the fact it comes with a dvd with 7 songs recorded from that concert on it makes the deal even sweeter!

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible, May 23, 2005
This review is from: 34th & 8th (Audio CD)
This was the first O.A.R. cd I bought after listening to a few live songs by them in the car with a friend. It was the last cd on the shelf, and I was looking for one of their live ones anyway so i grabbed it. It was possibly one of the best decisions i ever made.

The first track immediately caught my attention as it kept building up more and more until finally Marc came in singing "darlinnn!" at the top of his lungs. I was hooked from that moment on. I listened to the entire album, both discs, all the way through, and I was completely blown away. These guys are amazing, and if you don't hear it, I feel sorry for you. Every single one of these musicians is incredibly talented, and they all get plenty of chances to show off. I love a good saxaphone though, so for me every time their sax player, Jerry Depizzo played one of his solo's, he completely stole the show.

I bought three more of their cd's within a week, and after listening to all of them, i'd have to say this is still my favorite, followed closely by Any Time Now. You need to check these guys out. You won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, August 30, 2004
This review is from: 34th & 8th (Audio CD)
I think OAR's latest live CD is awesome. I would agree that Anytime Now may be just a little better but since this has many new songs on it, it's great to have. Personally, I think that the live versions are so much better than the recorded versions.

Some songs are of course better than others but all are great. Ran Away to the Top of the World is one of the better songs in my opinoin, not the worst. However, as was said 17 minutes of Poker is amazing. All in all it's a great CD to have.
