Book Description

November 10, 2005
Some 35 years ago Datsun (now Nissan) introduced the 1970 Datsun 240Z sports car, emphatically disproving the perception that Japanese automakers could only produce economy cars. Designed specifically to appeal to the American market, the Z car has enjoyed long-term popularity with its sporty styling and impressive performance. Z car fans are loyal and numerous. Over 1.4 million Z cars have been sold worldwide, including 1 million-plus in the U.S. The five generations of Z cars include the latest version, the 350Z introduced in 2003, which has refueled interest in Z cars. This book will thoroughly cover the history of this breakthrough Japanese sports car, and will include official Datsun/Nissan photography and memorabilia such as advertising and international marketing materials.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Classic & Sports Car (UK), February 2006 (circ.: 80,600)
“This exuberant homage to Nissan’s famous Z car range is unashamedly biased toward the company’s largest foreign market, the USA … There’s a good pace to the story … [and] the 350Z is covered in detail, making this a comprehensive work ... Recommended.”

Sports Car, February 2006 (circ.: 50,000)
Z: 35 Years of Nissan’s Sports Car is chock full of information, not just pictures – although it has plenty of those, too. The story of the Z car is told from an insider’s perspective, which is a refreshing change from the slew of automotive books that are packed with facts and images, but lack knowledge of the inner workings of the subject’s manufacturer. This book is ideal for any Z lover, be it a multi-time Z car owner or someone who has merely admired the Z car from afar.”

Classic Motorsports, July 2006 (circ.: 40,000)

“The author was actually very involved in the Z Car Store and Stillen SMZ 25th anniversary of the mid ’90s, so he has some unique insight and photos/artwork from this era.

"This is a well-done book that must be part of any Z collector’s library, or a good general read for the average car fan.”

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice book - missing some history, July 22, 2008

Would have given this five stars, but the one piece of Z history I was really looking for (1978 280Z - Black Pearl Limited Edition) was completely skipped over. Other than that - there is plenty of good reading!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Overview, December 16, 2007

This review is from: Z: 35 Years of Nissan's Sports Car (Hardcover)
Very good overview of the "Z" from concept to current production. As the original owner of a 1971 Datsun 240Z, I especially enjoyed the detailed section on the factory program of buying early 240Z cars for restoration and resale throough dealerships during a lapse in "Z" production. Highly recommend this book to those who find the "Z" an object of automotive interest.
