This review is from: 1/350 USS Hornet CV8 Carrier (Toy)
This kit serves as a fantastic starting point for an impressive display, but for what you pay, it sure is lacking. I would say that the number one problem is that it comes w/ 8 aircraft: 2x B-25s, 2x F-4Fs, 2x TBDs, and 2 SBDs, so, in order to make the Hornet via Doolittle Raid configuration, which carried 16x B-25s, you will have to purchase not one, but two packages of extra B-25s @ $12-$15 each. If you want it in the standard configuration, in which she carred 48 F-4Fs, you will need to buy 5 packs @$10, plus any additional aircraft. For a retail price of $120, I think Trumpeter could've spared a few extra planes w/ this kit. In addition, the hull itself is void of any detail whatsoever (no armor plating, weld lines, etc). I was ecstatic to receive this item as a Christmas gift, but probably wouldn't have forked over the cash on my own. W/ a full compliment of aircraft and photo-etched pieces, this one will run WELL over the $200 mark. Oh well.
