After buying this I was very frustrated with it. First of all they advertise on Amazon that you can charge your ipad with it. Well I plugged it into my iPad and the iPad says "Not Charging". If I turn the iPad off after plugging in the charger, it did charge but there was not enough power to charge more than 50%. I learned quicklky that you cannot put the solar charger in the sun and plug it in to a device to charge the device. You need to charge the solar charger first then plug it into the device you want to charge. Not what I was looking for. I want a charger I can put in the sun that will charge my iPad from the converted sunlight.

So, if I drain my iPad battery and try to charge it with this charger, I'll need to:

- charge the solar charger fully
- plug it into the iPad
- wait for the iPad to drain the solar charger battery
- re-charge the solar charger
- plug it back into the iPad
- wait for it to charge the rest of the way

Also, the directions say not to put it in direct sunlight. Huh? Its a Solar Charger!!

This is more of a battery pack that recharges in the sun I guess. THe problem is, I put it in the direct sunlight facing the sun and it's been there for a couple of hours and still no charge. I plugged it into a usb 2.0 port and it does charge.

The reviews for this device must be from somebody who makes money off of them because this is not a very good deal.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Gadget...But its Chinese, December 11, 2009

I just bought this solar charger on amazon and it has all of the things it says but it came with a gift! Running headphones. It has no iPod connector but you can connect a regular usb 2.0 to this. Its about the size of your iPod nano. Its Chinese so it takes hours to charge. While i seen American made ones that only take two hours to charge this is a nice sleek design that is perfect. Its a rechargeable wall battery also and is very portable. It has a wrist strap which is nice and comes with alot of wires. also you can hook up a hand crank and hand crank this thing to power! It started to charge as soon as i opened the box and its amazing how good this is you can be in the faintest light and it will pick up some charge. Green indicator tells you that. it fits into your day if you just leave it by a window and then at night you can charge your devices. I wouldn't depend on this charger though. Great gift for someone and nice box and presentation! Jersey shipper! I live on the Jersey Shore so it got to me within two days!!

1.0 out of 5 stars it is dangerous to expose a battery under sunlight for an extended period of time, June 27, 2010
This review is from: 3500mah Solar charger for Iphone 3G(S) 4th Gen 4G and ipod nano video. classic, touch ,blackberry , kindle 2/DX, most cellular phones and other PDA device. New (Electronics)
It is dangerous to expose a battery under sunlight for an extended period of time. High temperature also reduces battery capacity very fast. That's why the right way to do it is to have a solar panel exposed to the sun and then channel the juice through cable to a power bank in the shadow. Personally I won't risk my own safety and experiment with this product's solar charging function.
