4.0 out of 5 stars Difficult to find
This is a very hard product to find. The stores no longer deal with these lights. I have a very expensive piece of furniture that only uses these bulbs. So anytime I can find them, I would rate the company selling them positively. The last time I tried to buy these through Amazon, the dealer stated he was selling a boxed product containing several bulbs. I received one...

3.0 out of 5 stars If You Are Looking for This Bulb...
You may find it a Walmart. I bought 2 today at $2.42 each. I use it in my Luxo desk lamp. I do not find that they last very long (the one that just failed lasted less than 6 months) and for my purposes they get quite hot. BTW, the GE number on the package is 90401; it is marked as a specialty bulb. Their is also the number S11 on the package. If Walmart doesn't have it,...

1.0 out of 5 stars Worlds most expensive bulb, November 18, 2011

This review is from: GE 35156 40-Watt High Intensity Light S11 1CD Light Bulb (Tools & Home Improvement)
The entertainment center I purchased, five years ago, uses two of these bulbs. On average, I get 50-60 hours of usage per bulb. At four dollars each, I've spent a bloody fortune. GE doesn't even list an estimated life on the package as they do with many other types and styles of bulbs they manufacture. The bottom tip of the last bulb I replaced was not even attached. It resembled a button in that you could push it down and then it would pop back. I'm in the process of trying to find a replacement bulb. Unfortunately, all of the retailers I have visited only carry this bulb. I may end up having to replace my cabinets current lighting configuration just to get away from having to spend any more on these bulbs.

5.41 for one bulb? You can buy these from as low as $.90 to $2.50 keep looking folks. You CAN find much better deals.

Search the internet, you can surely find a cheaper replacement.

I also purchased a GE 25 watt bulb at Walmart that has the same base and was also marked as a specialty bulb. It is GE number 90466 and T7. The bulb is called an Indicator 25 and states it is for a microwave oven. The back of the package says it replaces the 40T8N and can be used in "microwaves refrigerators and oven". I am using it in my Luxo now and it doesn't give off near the heat that the 40 watt bulb does, yet still gives me ample light.

2.0 out of 5 stars Burns bright, burns easily, burns your hand, October 3, 2011

I've been using this bulb as an exact replacement for my desk lamp for years. It shines bright and has that traditional incandescent/tungsten color. But this bulb will also triple burn you. First, it gets super hot. I can't even touch the lamp if its been on for awhile without scolding my hand, let alone the bulb itself. Second, it burns easily. The filament is ultra hot/bright and doesn't seem to be the more durable 130volt version. As a result, any spikes in your power grid will burn out the filament. Third, the price is cheaper in places like Walmart. Way cheaper. Ouch.

What I received this time was truth in packaging.

I bought these bulbs from Amazon because the description was "GE Lamps 35156 40-Watt High Intensity Light S11 Light Bulb, 12-Pack." Imagine my surprise when I opened the box and found not a "12 pack" of bulbs but one single light bulb! The seller on my item was Amazon. Totally misleading.

I have an older high-intensity desk lamp and could not find these bulbs in the drugstore or supermarket. I saw these here on Amazon and the price of $3.26 is for each bulb. When they arrived, I tested both of them with my lamp and they worked perfectly. Very pleased with my purchase!

I use these for ceiling lighting in two rooms and they greatly outperform the slightly cheaper bulbs I was using.

Here's what happened - I have the same ceiling light in two rooms. In one, the bulbs (not these) would burn out every 3 months or so, and I'd keep replacing them with the same type. Then finally, after over a year, a bulb burned out in my other room. When I went to replace it, I noticed that it was a different type / brand (i.e. this one). So I purchased these bulbs, and have never looked back. Now, in both rooms, the lights have been lasting for quite a while.

I'm glad I spent the extra buck - I'm already ahead compared to the bulbs I was previously using.
