Product Description

The EdgeStar 36 Bottle Built-In Dual Zone French Door Wine Cooler is like having two (2) completely separate wine coolers rolled into one.

The unit features two (2) sides that are virtually independent of one another as each has its own electronically-controlled thermostat, stainless steel trim door, racking system, LED display, carbon filter, and internal fan. However, they do share the same cabinet which in turn saves you space, and keeps all of your favorite wines together in one convenient place.

From Port and Pinot Noir to Chardonnay and champagne, this wine refrigerator can simultaneously store red and white wines since each cooling zone can be adjusted to different temperatures in a range from 40-65° F. Unless making changes to the temperature, the current temperature for each zone will always be shown on its designated blue LED display to give you peace of mind.

Dimensions: 24.5" L x 23.5" W x 34" H; 110 lbs.

OK - Here's the scoop - If you need a BUILT IN appliance, and want TWO zones, this one does the job very well.

The Good :
Extremely nice looking unit. No one fails to comment about it's good looks when they see it.
2 zones of operation - easy to set up and start using - acceptable temperature control
Built IN operation. ( fans are necessary )
Not too loud. It's a real compressor - but an efficient one, the loudest operation is the pop of the starter as the compressor is started.*

The Bad :
The interior light is not very useful ( except as mood lighting ) =)
No control panel lock *

Now the details -
The unit can be used as a stand alone or as a built in appliance. I can understand those that have mentioned noise as an issue depending on the use.
*This has a real compressor, and a fan that operates independently of the compressor. If you are keen to these noises, you will notice them, however - as an appliance, it is quiet overall, and does what it's supposed to, while maintaining EXTREMELY good looks. If you build this under your counters the noise of it running are negligible, with the occasional small pop of a compressor starter being the only thing that is real noticeable.
If your intentions are to use this as a standalone - consider a unit that is therm o-electric. ( No moving parts ) There are other considerations when going that path, outside the scope of this review, so read up if you'd rather have something that is essentially solid-state.

Once up and running - the set temperatures for each side do seem to wander quite a bit, BUT - and this is BIG... as you fill the cooler, the temperature stabilizes greatly.

Very noisy wine cooler. I like the design and duel temp zones. doesn't hold the temp you set by a degree or so, not a big issue but if you need a quite fridge, I would shop a box store in your area ( and listen to it) because Edgestar will not do anything about it. They told me all fridge's make noise. when I said my Bosch fridge is whisper quiet, they had no response. I have since learned that a thermoelectric cooler is the way to go, it's whisper quiet compared to a normal compressor. This is a very expensive mistake. I would not recommend it.

I've now been using this wine fridge for about 4 months. I like the seperate doors, so you don't have to open the whole thing to get to just one side. The capacity is good for the size of the unit, and the bottle trays are easy to slide for the middle bottle. Overall it is a well-designed unit for both under counter and free-standing.

The only problem I notice is that the temperatures seem to vary quite a bit. I have it set for 65 and 45. I have seen the 65 side range from 62-68 and the 45 side vary from 42-49. This seems like a pretty wide range for the unit, even when nobody is opening the doors for a week or more. With finer wines that are more sensitive to the small fluctuations, this might be a problem. For my selection of mid and slightly upper bottles, I think it's probably ok.

The other thing I would like to see in this unit is better lights. The lights at the top get blocked by the top row of bottles. The lighting should be arranged to show each row.

So overall, I like the design of the unit, it's easy to use and looks good. But there are a few little functional issues that should be brought up to par.

product worked for about 6 months. took 3 weeks to get someone out to fix it. lasted another 6 months before it was dead again. it is almost impossible to reach someone on the phone. both product and customer service are terrible.

I guess I'm one of the unlucky ones, who got a noisy one. The unit is beautiful, functional and matches the other SS appliances in my kitchen. It is set up as a built-in under a quartz countertop. The problem is that the every time the unit cycles on, which it does several times an hour, there is a loud pop (sometimes softer, sometimes very loud, but it always happens), followed by a loud buzzing that gradually subsides over several seconds. The unit did it from the beginning, but I was remodeling the kitchen and had hoped that it would be quieter, once it was installed in a cabinet. Not so. My contractor said the buzzing is the compressor and the pop is probably some type of solenoid switch turning the compressor on.

While the unit is beautiful and does its job, the noise makes it very annoying. So, I cannot recommend it to others as an on-line purchase. Maybe, if you can find it in a box store and test the actual unit you will buy, then you can get a quiet one. If it were quieter, then i would give it 5 stars. But, under the circumstances, i cannot.

Researched wine refrigerators for weeks and after a lot of gnashing of teeth, I settled for this one. I knew the caveats going in, and also got a 3 year warranty (just in case) for $59 from Compact Appliance (the merchant seller). I said "settled" because cost is an object, and I wanted all the features, but did not want to spend over $1000. My requirements:
1. Dual-zone (different compartments)
2. Cold setting had to go to < 41°F
3. Under-counter certified (vents from bottom)
4. Less than $1000

After researching, the Edgestar met my requirements, but the only drawback is that the shelf only pulled out less than 5 inches. So to get to the flipped bottle, you have to remove one of the front bottles.
Received unit from trucking company, no damage on the box or unit. Assembled door handles (difficult to remove the gasket, careful not to tear rubber), but eventually got it assembled.
Looks much larger than I thought, well made, my unit uses an LG compressor, so I hope it is reliable. My unit is very quiet, I keep white side at 41 deg, and the red side at 64 degrees. Unit came to temperature in about an hour.
Going for two weeks so far, still quiet. I have my peace of mind for the on-site warranty.

I gave it 4 stars, because of the drawer pull-out only 5 inches.
