5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Tool
I bought this book as a replacement for the identical book I already have. It is a great tool for quilters because all the blocks are the same size, the templates are accurate, the directions perfectly clear. I made a plastic template for each peice and labled it with its number to keep with the book as one template may be called for in more than one pattern. The twelve...

I purchased this book from House of White Birches directly. I have been quilting for about 2 years now. I have taken several night life courses and am now ready to use this book. I have not been able to up till this point as this book is for an ADVANCED QUILTER!! The reason I say this is because the instructions are basic at best. You need to know all the teqniques in advanced. You have Y seams in the blocks but no directions on how to do them. The directions are extreamly basic. You must know how to use templates as most of the blocks are set up for them. There are a lot of great blocks in the book. Several are named different from what I know them as. example: the block I know as hovering hawk is called rocky mountain puzzle. Also there are several ANIMAL NAMED BLOCKS however they do not look like an animal to me. In the section all God's Creatures there is a project called Cats & Mice Vest. This block has no cat or mouse in it. The block is a X maid of smaller square blocks. There are a lot of blocks in the book several I have not seen any place else. However do not get this book with the idea that you will learn how to piece blocks from it!! Learn how to piece blocks then after several projects get this book. There are several small projects in the book. Example pillows, vest, carry bags & of course sample quilts. There is no real example of bindings or finishing ideas. It is just a block book with template use. You must know how to piece blooks before you try to use this book. The first chapter strips & Pieces would be the only place for the quick rotary cutting most of us use now. I feel this book is a 3 because of the asumption it makes that you already know how to quilt. however it never tells you this when you read the back of the book. No did it tell me this when I was sent they flyer to purchase the book. I hope this helps anyone who is looking into this book.

I made a plastic template for each peice and labled it with its number to keep with the book as one template may be called for in more than one pattern. The twelve inch blocks may be mixed or matched. If you are a quilter who prefers to get on with the quilting rather than figuring out pattern sizes etc, this is a great book.
