Beautiful prose, practical information., April 11, 2006
This review is from: 365 Science of Mind: A Year of Daily Wisdom From Ernest Holmes (Mass Market Paperback)
If you can appreciate beautiful poetry, then you can handle the wisdom in this book. His thoughts are very deep yet extremely practical for the day to day. It's worth it to read a selection each day and keep a journal to further examine the lesson contained within its pages. If you are familiar with his philosphies - you'll really appreciate the articulate nature of his impressions and spiritual remedies. If you are not familiar with him, I'd challenge you to do so - you will not regret it!

Start the Day in an Affirmative Way, October 2, 2008
Today, appeared to be a very stressful day for me. I had to take my elderly father to several of his appointments, I had to meet with brand new clients this afternoon, and I had to deal with some paperwork that I have been avoiding for some time. It really wasn't that much - when I stop to think about it - but I just felt like I had to be all things to all people and I just found myself getting easily irritated and then I felt kinduv sad and then I felt hopeless about things. I felt very "off center" and as a spiritual counselor I know how important it is for me to have my own spiritual counselor.
So I gave her a call.
As I relayed the events of my day to my counselor, she just listened...like she always does and then she said, "John, it's not just you who is feeling very stressed out. It seems as though everyone is feeling some kind of pressure...some kind of stress. Major changes are taking place in the world right now and as a group of people we are at a very critical juncture in our evolution as a whole society. Now, more than ever before, you must meditate, pray, and be centered in God...in Peace...in Love more than ever before."
And after I hung up the phone with her, I knew she was right and I remembered how this morning I just woke up and just started my day without any kind of "spiritual centering". I thought I had too much to do to just "be" for just a few minutes.
And for all of you who think they really don't have the time to meditate or pray or center yourself in Spirit before you walk out the door, think again, because the ironic thing is, the more we take a moment or two to just slow down, the more effective we become. When I am centered in God and I am at Peace within myself I can be in the world, but I remember that I am not of the world. I don't have to be swallowed up by appearances. I can transcend the limits, the restraints, the challenges that might consume me because I remember that the "I AM" of me...God...Love...Spirit whatever you want to call it, is always right where I am.
It's just like that great verse in scripture, "Lo, I am with you always..." And that's a promise we sometimes have trouble accepting, embracing, and embodying.
So before I did anything else today, I got down this book from my shelf. The great thing about this particular book is that they are condensed paragraphs of great and dynamic truths that help me remember real fast that God is my Reality and I am living in a Spiritual universe now. Ernest Holmes always has a way - for me, at least - to center me, ground me, and root me in the in the remembering that God is my Infinite Source. He'll throw something out like:
"God's Creative Power of Mind is right here. We have as much of this power to use as we believe in and embody. The storehouse of nature is filled with infinite good, awaiting the touch of our awakened thought to spring forth into manifestation in our lives; but the awakening must be within our own thought!"
This world is always changing - no doubt about that - but we can BE the change we want to see in the world. What good does it do anyone to buy into fear, stress, and doubt? We can have a vision of Love, Peace, and Good-will and we can live that vision now!! Now, more than ever before, our daily spiritual practices count! Let us come from Love rather than fear, let us know that God is our Source and not material posessions, let us know and feel that we are always and in all ways spiritual beings now and we can do those things that are in front of us to do not with panic or stress...like I was earlier....but with a knowing and a feeling that I can do all things through the Living Spirit within me.
This is a great book to start the new day with. Remember, it only takes a very brief moment to change your mind and when we change our mind, we really do help in the changing of all minds.
Peace and Blessings,
john, 'the Light Coach'
