5.0 out of 5 stars Ridiculous, asinine music
... which I happen to love.

Grindcore is not your parent's music, nor is it your friends', or yours for that matter.

What's that? You consider yourself "open-minded" about music? You've not a clue what that term means, rest assured. I guarantee you, ninety-nine times out of 100, anyone, be they a music professor of the highest regard or the lowliest of...

1.0 out of 5 stars [bad] genre.
If I could have given it 0 stars, I certainly would have... I mean, come on, who wants a CD with 38 songs on it? And I believe some of the songs are as short as 20 or 30 seconds. I don't quite understand the relevance of having short songs just to be able to have large amounts of tracks on the CD... Grindcore is a disgrace to music.

Grindcore is not your parent's music, nor is it your friends', or yours for that matter.

What's that? You consider yourself "open-minded" about music? You've not a clue what that term means, rest assured. I guarantee you, ninety-nine times out of 100, anyone, be they a music professor of the highest regard or the lowliest of mall-metal fans, would switch off Pig Destroyer's "38 Counts of Battery" in utter disgust after one listen to any of the tracks contained therein.

There are those people, however, who are able to find worth in this type of music, myself included. Grindcore penetrates you in places that no other music can, moves you in ways you weren't aware of, and it rips the flesh from your bones and the paint from your wall simultaneously. In the end, however, you are left satisfied, with a whole new realm of beautiful music open to you.

You have been warned.

4.0 out of 5 stars brilliant material, lacking production, February 10, 2004
This review is from: 38 Counts of Battery (Audio CD)
this is not the "fans only" release it looks like. explosions in ward 6 is every bit as good as prowler in the yard, despite being recorded on an 8 track in a basement. if anything this is faster and more intense, but maybe not quite as deranged, and definitely not as mature. that's right, i just called a grindcore band mature. 20 more tracks of mayhem round out the disc, including "delusional supremacy", which i would claim as the greatest grindcore song ever. buy prowler in the yard first, then pick this up. your neighbors will hate you for it.

35, then - (3 translations in anisotropy) - centripetal excursions of deductive analysis in perturbation; stochastically exosonic and of derivative instability. Recommended.

This album is sick! So worth to have if your a huge Pig Destroyer fans. Come with some really good covers, some demos and a bunch of songs. If you have other Pig Destroyer CDs and do not have this album be sure to pick this one up. Though if I say your new to PxDx and dont have Prolwer In The Yard...pick that album up as well as Terryifer before you pick this one up!

Like Napalm Death before them Pig Destroyer carry the tradition of endless heavy riffing and hyperbeats. What's also really cool of them is to throw a tribute to one of thier influences in , and update the recording a little bit in the prosess .The end result is better guitar and bass clarity. This new generation of "Underground" music has technology on it's side .Hard disk recording ,Line 6 POD ,it keeps getting better .

38 Counts is no Prowler in the Yard by any means, but it's still a fantastic album. That magic synchronicity you hear on Pig Destroyer's later albums just isn't there between the old drummer and Scott, but the tracks are still mind-bending and greatly written. The vocals are as good as ever. I especially love the Melvins and Carcass covers. My only gripe is that this album (Mostly the Explosions songs) have parts where the guitar is completely indecipherable. It never bothered me on an Agoraphobic Nosebleed album, but it sucks being unable to hear what's being played on parts of songs that are otherwise really great.

38 tracks is a lot to digest, and it can be especially frustrating getting into when some of the songs aren't mixed too well. I recommend listening to the album in pieces to more easily familiarize yourself if you get impatient with it.
