I checked the fence but it required no alignment. I was using the saw 15 minutes after opening the box. Just unpack, plug in, and go. It has plenty of power and cuts easily.
I considered the laser a gimmick and it didn't figure in my decision to buy this saw, but it turned out to be very useful. Alignment was perfect out of the box. From behind the saw, I could see the laser hitting the backside of the teeth as I lowered the blade. I've always had a problem with transfer error when cutting up wood. The mark I made on the wood seemed to be slightly off from where I wanted it or slightly angled or too wide, and then getting the saw lined up on the mark caused additional error. That's no longer a problem. I don't even mark the wood. I lay the wood on the table, lay a ruler on top of it, and slide the wood and ruler until the laser hits the ruler where I want to cut. Take the ruler away, cut, and repeat (you can do this with a tape measure, but a flat steel ruler works better). It saves a step (no marking) and improves accuracy. I cut a 2x4 into 4 equal length pieces and stood the pieces on end to compare. There was less than a millimeter difference among the 4 pieces and all were perfectly square. I've never cut so accurately before, and it was fast.
Miter cuts are also fast and repeatable.Read more ›
The deal breaker for me was the alignment. I didn't test the alignment right out of the box and found out when trying to match up two 45-degee pieces of cut wood. The saw was off by 2-3 degrees. Per the instruction manual (as with other brands) the solution was to adjust the fence by loosening its bolts. Unfortunately for me there was just not enough play to compensate for the 2+ degrees. I could get it down to just a little more than 1 degree, but that was it. I can't believe it would be this far out of whack from the factory, so I suppose it could have been dropped. However, it was "factory refurbished" with an authentication sticker, so who knows.
With that said, the saw can still be used, but for accurate angles I would need to use my combination square, and even then that would just give me an accurate 0 or 45; so I decided to return the saw. Not sure this tool would be worth investing in a decent blade.
The other major draw back was the miter lock in the front. By itself not a deal breaker but a real pain. It's very cumbersome to tighten firmly without drifting the blade angle. The turning of the bolt rotates the table. Also, the table itself it difficult to turn.
As far as the positives:
- overall, solid aluminum construction. No plastic parts except the lock knobs, handle and blade guard.
- Accurate laser. This was dead-on right out of the box, but can be calibrated.Read more ›

This saw works great and has all the features I need. I replaced a smaller delta saw with this. Only downside it that it does not come aligned. Read morePublished 20 months ago by Water Tiger
I'd like to give this a better review, because for the price it seems to be a nice saw. Unfortunately the stops for the various preset miters are really tentative. Read morePublished 22 months ago by Jonathan

Once you purchase a mitre saw with a laser you will wonder why not sooner.
Precise and well built or the money. Very accurate cuts.
Easy to set up and user friendly. Buy a good blade and you'll be good to go. The Laser is weak in daylight but overall great value, solid construction and would recommend. Read morePublished on October 18, 2013 by Christopher Rowland
