Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 3–6—In this leg of the worldwide scavenger hunt, Amy and Dan Cahill, accompanied by their au pair Nellie, are off to Egypt to find the next clue left by Ekaterina branch founder Katherine Cahill. Once there, they learn about the rivalry between the Tomas and Ekaterina branches of the Cahill family, discover a secret Ekaterina stronghold at an Egyptian hotel, and explore tombs of ancient Egyptians. They meet their grandmother Grace's friend Hilary, who gives them several items from Grace. While Hilary and her grandson Theo seem eager to help, looks can be deceiving. Run-ins with Irina Spasky, Jonah Wizard, and Alistair Oh add to the excitement and drama of the adventure. Amy and Dan discover Cahill connections to Napoleon, Thomas Edison, and Marie Curie along with paintings and hieroglyphs that will lead them on their dangerous hunt that's fraught with betrayals and reversals. Like the previous books, historical information is woven into the fast-paced adventure.—Sarah Polace, Cuyahoga County Public Library, Parma, OH END --This text refers to an alternate Hardcover edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best yet!, June 8, 2009
The Cahill siblings are at it again - this time in Egypt. Mysterious clues are hidden in some of the most famous tombs in all of history, but danger still abounds. This time around, though, Dan and Amy have some help from an old friend of Grace Cahill's - or do they?? This is the best book yet of the series.

1.0 out of 5 stars Plot not the greatest, July 9, 2011
A Kid's Review
Well first off i loved the other books in the series but this one was not too great. This is coming from a kid. OK first well the plot is too random. In the other books each clue leads to another but in this one they'll randomly and luckily find a clue which makes the plot too artificial. Next the action scenes were not up to par. The other books' action scenes were not as fake or as "wow that was lame" kind of thing. Also, man things went sooooo slow in the book and i just wanted to hit it. Yet some of the parts went so quickly and went without being explained. I would recomend this book for a 8, 9, or 10 year old looking for an easy read but not really getting into the whole series too much. If u really liked the first three books (as i did) then just bear throught with this one and get to the rest of the series which was stellar.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the others., April 23, 2010
A Kid's Review
I really like the 39 clues series but when I came to Jude Watsons book it became rather boring. I loved the sixth book In to deep by the same author it was exiting and one of
the best ones yet but her writing skills weren't as great in Beyond the grave. As for being appropriate there's not much bad in the book besides a couple of mentions of death and other physical violence. These scenes include people holding each other at "dart gunpoint"and both main characters are locked in a tomb. I would only recommend this book to children 8 and older.

p.s
Reading skills must be intermediate.
