Terrible quality,

This review is from: The 39 Steps (1935) (DVD)
This dvd is of the poorest quality I have ever seen. It was almost unintelligible and it appeared to skip around as well. It was very difficult to see the film and the overall experience was extremely disappointing. I had wanted to see the film again before I saw the new stage play on Broadway and this was most unsatisfactory. While at the theater I purchased a much better version of the same film on dvd which is perfectly legible and which also has extras and is very clear. This particular version should be taken off the market.

This review is from: The 39 Steps (1935) (DVD)
I bought this dvd for exactly the same reason as the other person reviewing it; when I read that review, I thought I had written it. I wanted to be familiar with the plot and dialogue before seeing the show on Broadway. To that extent, it was worth it. But the quality is atrocious--fuzzy and jumpy. It almost looks like a flip book of stills. The movie itself is quite good, and exhibited in 1935 many of the characteristics and scenes we're familiar with in The Master's later movies: a quirky hero, the edgy-funny-sexy pairings, the climax in the theater. If you're interested in this movie, spring for the $29.95; this cheapo-cheapo edition is a waste of money.
