2.0 out of 5 stars Not the best Sudoku game out there June 20, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase
This is an alright Sudoku game, but not the best out there in my opinion. Here's why I only give it a 2 star rating:

The Good:
-Many options to help you along: If you don't want all the answers, but want some assistance there's a few options to help you get past a rut. You can click on an empty cell and it'll eliminate all the numbers that you can't use, click again and it'll narrow it down by one more, and click again for one more, ect, until your number is left. Second, you can hit the hint button and it'll flash 3 answers for you. Third, if you hit "solve" it'll fill in the puzzle one by one, you can stop at any moment and take over. Last, the "crib" button shows basically pencil marks for some of your cells, taking away the grunt work.
- Auto-save: great for those times someone calls during a game or your phone randomly turns off.
-Various puzzle sizes: I don't really have experience with using different grid sizes. But the 2 x 2 seems like a great way for beginners to get started with Sudoku! Then they can work their way up to the larger puzzle sizes.
-Unlimited games generated: Enough said. You can stay busy for a long time with this game.

The Bad:
-No pencil marks: I rely on this feature, but either this game doesn't have it, or I can't seem to figure it out. There's the "crib" feature, which adds pencil marks, but you don't actually get to do the thinking to figure it out, the game adds it automatically. The help menu offers no explanation on how to use pencil marks. The product description clearly says "pencil-marking option". So, I'm not sure what's up with this.
-Boring design: This isn't a deal breaker for me.

1.0 out of 5 stars SuperDud June 20, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase
This app is one of the most basic Sudoku apps I've ever seen. The interface is primitive and it lacks features found in many other Sudoku games.

The graphics are unimpressive and amateurish. The app forces the operating system to run in portrait mode on my tablet, placing the system buttons and menus on the side of the screen, even though the app itself is reluctantly capable of displaying in landscape. There is a large amount of wasted space on the edges, and the background image falls short of covering the whole screen. When I pressed the Menu button, I got a dialog box full of gibberish. Even the icon looks boring.

This app does not appear to have any way of entering pencil marks. It will fill in some marks if you press the Crib button, however it still leaves many of the spaces blank, making this feature nearly useless. Besides, I'd rather do the work myself.

There is a large button labeled Solve which will start filling in the answers if you press it. Since it's right next to the numbers, and above the Undo button, I imagine it would be quite easy to hit it accidentally. It doesn't ask if you are sure you want it solved for you, it just starts doing it the instant you press it.

Pressing the back button on your device exits the game rather than taking you back to the menu.

The game has only 3 difficulty levels, the fewest I've seen of any Sudoku game except the ones they print in the newspaper.

The permissions this app asks for are questionable. Why does it require read phone state and identity, view network state, and full Internet access? I can't find any features in this game that would require the Internet.

3.0 out of 5 stars Works on my TF101 June 20, 2012
By Sally

I'm not a big fan of Sudoku, but I noticed the one review stating it does not work on the Asus Transformer TF101. Since that is what I have, I tried it out. It works on mine...hopefully at least one more person with a TF101 could chime in to give a good idea if this works on theirs. Also, mine did not force it to be in portrait mode at all. It opened in portrait but sensed how I was holding my tablet and automatically corrected.

This one makes you think about it before you choose your numbers and be careful because it is very challenging. I was able to do a few of the easier ones. And some of the more difficult ones as well. I am currently working on one that has be stumped but I love a good challenge.

4.0 out of 5 stars I love my SuperDoKu! February 20, 2013
Amazon Verified Purchase
4 stars for not having a screen lock capability. If you're laying in bed, or move the Kindle the slightest bit, the whole screen flips. Most games have a lock or use the setting that you have selected for the Kindle itself, but not this game.

Other than that, no complaints. Been playing on this for about a year now I believe and still love it for relaxing in bed or on the couch.

The game plays in either landscape or portrait mode on the Kindle Fire. The playing screen is large and easy to see and touch the right buttons. The graphics are simple but look OK for such a game and use a large portion of the screen for maximum visibility. As you rotate the screen from portrait to landscape the Kindle rings a bell. I don't know why it has this feature.

Instructions are weak. Going to the menu during a game erases your current game. I play Sudoku quite often and there are at least six levels that I have seen. They are rated 1 to 5 stars in difficulty with another master level. This game only offers 3 levels which may be frustrating for beginners trying to learn the game by moving through the ranks.

Touching Crib puts in possible answers into the boxes but unfortunately it only does it for some of the boxes and not all. This simulates penciling in possible answers but without filling out all the boxes it is almost useless. There is no way to enter your own pencil notations which is aggravating to me as this is how I play the game in a book or in the newspaper. If a cell has two squares with the same possible answer and you enter the number into both, one of the squares turns red. Unfortunately the instructions don't tell you if that means that it is the right or the wrong answer. (It appears to be the wrong answer but it would have been nice to mention this feature in the instructions.) Pressing the back button exits the game on the Kindle Fire which is bothersome to me as I press the back key quite often and instead of only going back one level you go back to your device home screen.

Double tapping a blank cell will highlight the possible numbers on the keypad that can be entered into that cell or even give you the correct answer.
