Very good book to start with, you want more, more, more,

I really enjoyed reading this book. It makes you aware of the unlimited possibilities of Max, but nothing more. You keep wanting to know exactly how things can be done. It is a very good starter though. A little more attention could have been given to the material and mapping section. I really recommend this book to anyone who wants to get started seriously with 3D design.

dont buy this book...reading it is just like sitting through a 3 hour calculus class...definitely boring....barely any tutorials that let you perform the concepts your reading...basically a book of 3d studio max definitions.

Better books out there.....,
By A Customer
This review is from: 3D Studio Max 2 Fundamentals (Paperback)
This book is an ok way to learn 3d studio max, but a better book is included with 3d studio max (assuming you dont have a pirated version) This book often times has vague descriptions of what you are supposed to do which can leave you wondering for upwards of 15 minutes, and it was written for 2.0 (not 2.5). Also, I have also found many typos in the book that make learning that much more troublesome.

A nice desk-side companion, but so is a cat,
This review is from: 3D Studio Max 2 Fundamentals (Paperback)
Of course, if you want to learn a program, you have to use it. This book is a nice compendium to draw from for somewhat savy beginners, but it can be, like all books of its ilk, stale and utterly uninteresting to read. I find I use it the most when I stumble across a problem I have while using 3d Studio, and I need a quick explanation of a function or such, but otherwise I didn't find it too helpful when I was first struggling with the program itself. I guess I just lost interest when I sat down at my computer to to read/use it, but perhaps it's because I'm a hateful man.

If you want to learn 3D Studio, you have to want it.,
This review is from: 3D Studio Max 2 Fundamentals (Paperback)
This is a great book, but it isn't going to hold your hand. There are relatively few tutorials compared to the amount of info. presented. The tutorials all give basic models for you to start with, but if you really want to learn this software you should try to recreate the examples on the CD. The only way to learn this complex program is by doing.WARNING: If you want somebody to hold your hand and tell you exactly what to do (ie. not learn the program), then this book is NOT for you. If you want to really learn 3D Studio, then get this book and treat it as a beginner's course outline.

The faulty attached CD-ROM spoils an otherwise good book,

The tutorials are based on existing files on the CD. Unfortunately the CD in my case was faulty and therefore rendered the tuturials practically useless. The CD seems to be a common problem with reviewers. I saw this, but thought it wouldn't happen to me. I regret purchasing this book. It was a waste of money.

Tough books for really beginner, but worth it,

This review is from: 3D Studio Max 2 Fundamentals (Paperback)
This books is a good buy for who are really interested in 3D & animation. This is my first book in 3D software. After I read it, I found that it is quite tough for really Beginner who not much experience in others simple computer software. I feel that this book suite me because at least I am experience in AutoCAD & others simple software. Lastly, I hope that more publisher will publishs some books in more projects (in one books), so that we can use 3D studio max 2 more efficiently & productivity.

Just like the title states...,

This book basically covers much of the program but does not go into much depth of any of it. Some of the tutorials are pretty simplistic yet over the book helped a great deal in the very beginning. Overall this book is worth the money if you are beginning to experiment with 3D Studio Max but given about a week I was already looking for something more advanced. Buy the book if you are new to 3D Studio Max or just started thinking about 3d graphics. The information may be a tad simple but overall it is invaluable.

3D Max as a new career,
By A Customer
This review is from: 3D Studio Max 2 Fundamentals (Paperback)
I've just left teaching 3rd grade to begin a career in Max. This book has helped so much with the basics and fundamentals that you need to learn and understand. It goes step-by-step and is very clear compared to the tutorials which take for granted what the learner already knows. For anyone just beginning this is a great way to learn the program.

The BEST beginner book,
By A Customer
This review is from: 3D Studio Max 2 Fundamentals (Paperback)
After buying this book I realized it was to easy for me because I had already worked with MAX for a few month. But boy if I had had this book when I learned MAX! What took me several month to figure out would have taken only a week or two if I had this. I think this is the best book so far for the beginner, but if you know the basics good then this book is not for you. But hey the name IS fundamentals :)
