Pretty Good,

Bought this for my apartment and it appears to work well. There are small, almost unnoticable lines in the film but you can barely see them. Also, the film becomes very noticeable over the window when I turn a my desk lamp on (about 1.5 feet away). It is still slightly drafty (I think it's just a cheap window) but the film cuts the draft down noticeably. Saw a commercial for Duck brand film that is sold in WalMart stores, probably would have bought that in-store to save on the 80% s&h charge.A note: 3M is back at they're old tricks, practically giving away their double stick tape (retails for about $6) so you buy their film for $10. It may be more economical for you to buy the 3M tape, which I hear is the best, and use it on Duck brand film. For the same price as the 2-window 3M kit you can get a 5-window Duck kit (3M's version is $18). However, I personally don't know if Duck is any good.

It's been crazy cold this winter in Florida and one of my son's windows doesn't seal quite right due to the house shifting a bit. So I used this kit to seal up this window and it worked very well. I found that the 3m tape doesn't stick to the cold aluminum window frames that well so use the hairdryer to warm up the frames and then stick the tape to the frame. After that it was a breeze and it really does end up crystal clear once you heat it up with a hair dryer. This window no longer has a draft and my son's room stays much warmer during these cold nights.

I once lived in a 2nd floor apartment (probably about 600 sq ft) in a 3-story Philadelphia row home. The bedroom was in the front with 2 large windows above a red tin roof covering the front porch. In back was the living room with only one rear-facing window and a kitchenette along the opposite wall. Between these rooms was the bathroom and a hallway connecting all three. Because the prevailing winds were always buffeting the front windows, I used the 3M Window Insulator Kit there. With the windows insulated, I found that a single 1500W space heater in the front room, plus a small fan in the hallway, blowing toward the living room, kept the entire apartment as warm as I could want it to be. I was able to disconnect the baseboard heaters throughout the apartment (and use those circuits for other electrical appliances, such as my computer, A/V system, microwave oven and A/C). It was an old house with barely enough outlets for lighting. In the summer, even with the heat coming off that tin roof, a modest (12.5K BTU) room air conditioner in one front window kept the whole place comfortable. I'm sure it helped that I was surrounded by neighbors on both sides and apartments above and below, which were usually occupied and kept heated in the winter or cooled in the summer. Anyway, my electric bill was cut in half year-round. That 3M Window Insulation paid for itself hundreds of times over in less than 3 years.
