4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good
Bought this for my apartment and it appears to work well. There are small, almost unnoticable lines in the film but you can barely see them. Also, the film becomes very noticeable over the window when I turn a my desk lamp on (about 1.5 feet away). It is still slightly drafty (I think it's just a cheap window) but the film cuts the draft down noticeably. Saw a...

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay going up, tougher getting down...
The kit went up easily, shrunk well, and seemed to make a few of our draftier rooms much nicer. However, when I tried to take down the kit in the spring so that I could open up the windows, it ended up taking off a fair amount of paint due to the continued adherence of the tape on the windowsill. Since I am not a fan of having to do any repainting, I don't think that I...

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good, December 4, 2008
This review is from: 3M 2120W-6 Indoor 2-Window Insulator Kit, 5.16 ft x 7 ft (Tools & Home Improvement)
Saw a commercial for Duck brand film that is sold in WalMart stores, probably would have bought that in-store to save on the 80% s&h charge.

A note: 3M is back at they're old tricks, practically giving away their double stick tape (retails for about $6) so you buy their film for $10. It may be more economical for you to buy the 3M tape, which I hear is the best, and use it on Duck brand film. For the same price as the 2-window 3M kit you can get a 5-window Duck kit (3M's version is $18). However, I personally don't know if Duck is any good.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worked out well for my son's windows, January 27, 2010

It's been crazy cold this winter in Florida and one of my son's windows doesn't seal quite right due to the house shifting a bit. So I used this kit to seal up this window and it worked very well. I found that the 3m tape doesn't stick to the cold aluminum window frames that well so use the hairdryer to warm up the frames and then stick the tape to the frame. After that it was a breeze and it really does end up crystal clear once you heat it up with a hair dryer. This window no longer has a draft and my son's room stays much warmer during these cold nights.

5.0 out of 5 stars Saved 50% on heating & A/C in an apartment, December 13, 2010

This review is from: 3M 2120W-6 Indoor 2-Window Insulator Kit, 5.16 ft x 7 ft (Tools & Home Improvement)
I once lived in a 2nd floor apartment (probably about 600 sq ft) in a 3-story Philadelphia row home. The bedroom was in the front with 2 large windows above a red tin roof covering the front porch. In back was the living room with only one rear-facing window and a kitchenette along the opposite wall. Between these rooms was the bathroom and a hallway connecting all three. Because the prevailing winds were always buffeting the front windows, I used the 3M Window Insulator Kit there.

With the windows insulated, I found that a single 1500W space heater in the front room, plus a small fan in the hallway, blowing toward the living room, kept the entire apartment as warm as I could want it to be. I was able to disconnect the baseboard heaters throughout the apartment (and use those circuits for other electrical appliances, such as my computer, A/V system, microwave oven and A/C). It was an old house with barely enough outlets for lighting. In the summer, even with the heat coming off that tin roof, a modest (12.5K BTU) room air conditioner in one front window kept the whole place comfortable.

I'm sure it helped that I was surrounded by neighbors on both sides and apartments above and below, which were usually occupied and kept heated in the winter or cooled in the summer. Anyway, my electric bill was cut in half year-round. That 3M Window Insulation paid for itself hundreds of times over in less than 3 years.

The difference really is in the tape. It has the right amount of sticking power. You won't have to continuous apply pressure for it to stick, which is what I have experienced with many other brands. Also, the plastic is stronger than many others. I love this product.

I ordered the 2 window size - 2PK (Doesn't this mean 2 pack?) and only 1 box came in the mail. This is really dissapointing both from a price perspective (this stuff isn't really cheap) and from a convience one. I now need to order another.

Anyhow, this stuff is easy to use, does its job and yes over priced - but why would you go out of way to find plastic sheets this large. We used this in Vermont to keep our heating costs down and rooms warm, it DOES work.

If the product hadn't taken off the paint, I would have probably given it 4-5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Made such a difference!, January 27, 2011

My one and only complaint is that I was under the impression that these covers were already cut-to-size, however, you do have to measure and cut the plastic sheets yourself. It is very easy though.

Overall, I am amazed at how well this has worked. My bedroom window is very drafty and this has made such a difference in my room. I am even able to still open and close my mini blinds- something I thought I was going to have to sacrifice by using this product. If you apply the plastic covering right, you cant even tell that its covering your window. It's like saran wrap for windows. I highly recommend it if you need to heat up any room with drafty windows.

The product is easy to install and works well but be sure to measure your window sizes. I was able to cover one window with a small amount of film and tape leftover.

The film size is 62" x 84". Depending on where you mount the film it will cover only one window. When measuring your window, measure where the tape will be installed.

If the tape mounting measure from top to bottom is more than 62", it will only cover one window.

This product is great!! It increased the temperature in my room by about 20 degrees, and now it is warm enough that I can actually sleep fine at night in the winter and not freeze. It is easy to set up too, I did it by myself in under half an hour. I'm really glad I bought it!

There's a learning curve with first window. Tape is straight forward to put on, and cutting/placing plastic on tape is tricky first time. Plastic shrinks with heating to tighten and fits very nicely making overall installation look nice. I'd suggest two people, at least on first window, to install plastic. Results are immediately noticeable.
