This review is from: 3M 2145C Indoor Insulator Film Mounting Tape, 1/2 in x 13.8 yds (Tools & Home Improvement)
This tape works great. At first, it seemed a bit...well...it didn't stick to the window frames as well as expected. After letting it sit for a minute or two, it practically bonded with the window frame! The plastic from the window insulation isn't going anyway. This tape is good enough to form an air-tight bond and keep cold air out of your home.
Not sure about removal yet. Will find out in the Spring.

This product is great. The only one of its kind I've found that the tape stays stuck

I've used this window film tape for around 10 years, and always considered it the best - until this year, 2010. It simply isn't working - it has very low adhesive properties. Now, after a strong wind, or for no apparent reason, the tape fails. I've used different batches of tape and compared notes with friends who use this, and they also say the tape is no longer effective.

I've tried several different brands of this kind of tape over the years. The other brands just plain don't stick or are hard to get off in the spring.
One trick I've found is to warm up the window frame with a hair dryer before applying the tape, applying the tape across the entire surface, don't try one side at a time. Put the plastic on it and you'll likely not have to stretch it at all. This stuff even holds when you put the plastic on at a 90 degree angle, like the sill. Spend a little more on the 3M brand and you'll save money (and a lot of aggravation) in the long run.

This tape works better than I though it would. It holds very well and can even be removed and stuck again and holds just as well

This is the same tape the I bought earlier in the Fall/Winter season for the almost twice the price of Amazon's price, so when I needed more tape, I decided to try the internet and Amazon had the lowest price (with shipping on the internet) and I received the item in less than 5 business days from ordering -- I will definitely purchase more of this tape from Amazon. Highly recommended.

Get extra tape if you are using any of the Scotch kits,

I use this with the other Scotch indoor insulator packages, (like their "Indoor Window Insulator Kit" for 1 XL window). If you measure all your windows first, then lay out the shapes and measurements on a blank sheet of paper so the shapes fit together efficiently and you are not wasting big sections of plastic, you can seal up quite a few windows with even just one 1 XL window kit. BUT - you will need extra tape. None of the Scotch kits I've ever used had enough tape, so do yourself a favor and just buy an extra roll of this tape up front. None of the stores in my area carry this, but at least with Prime shipping I can order it here and have it in a few days. I have tried using other brands of double sided tape for sealing windows, but they're terrible. This is THE tape to use for the job. One tip: have a pair of tweezers handy when you are doing your windows. That way, when you feel like you are in some bizarre yoga position trying to get the tape in the right place for the window to get sealed correctly, you do not have to spend 2 minutes messing with the edge of the tape to get the plastic seal to pull away from the sticky part. Being able to reach up and just pull the tiny little tab away with tweezers is much, much easier.

Worked really well and holds tension of the tight plastic well. Used on old wooden surface but no issues. Just make sure the window is free of dust and is dry.

I bought this tape to use to put plastic over our windows. I bought this specifically because the stuff that comes with the shrink window insulation is usually cheap. This stuff came down on 6 of 7 windows! I am floored and shocked and pretty upset. I put this plastic insulation over my windows every year for 10 years. This is not a new process for me. TO have one window come loose is rare. TO have 2 window seals come loose is extremely rare. To have 6 of 7 is unheard of! I"m really not pleased. And i use the Scotch brand each year. I don't know why this did not hold, my only guess i that this taps has been sitting for a long time on the shelf and it's old. Can't explain it otherwise. |
