This duct tape is the only one to consider in my opinion for any task that will be exposed to the sun and rain, or other extreme conditions. It uses real rubber and is perfect for keeping the sun or bright light off of whatever you cover with it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not nearly as good as Gorilla Tape
The church that I work for uses a fair amount of tape to put up signage at the school where we have our services. We need tape that affixes to mixed surfaces like brick walls and sandstone pillars. We've used this tape as well as Gorilla Tape , and I thought it might be useful to compare the two for potential purchases.

This duct tape is the only one to consider in my opinion for any task that will be exposed to the sun and rain, or other extreme conditions. It uses real rubber and is perfect for keeping the sun or bright light off of whatever you cover with it.

I used this tape to cover up some storage totes to make light-tight hydroponic growing boxes. Light in the root-zone means unhealthy plants, so it's critical to block all the light. This tape does the job without degrading or failing if it gets too hot or wet in my basement vegetable garden.

The real deal!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Duck tape ever, January 19, 2011

I have a cover over the back of my truck. It started to rip last year. I used duck tape ( not this one) and it did not last long weather got to it I think. This All weather duct tape has been on there twice as long as the other stuff. No sign of it falling apart o losing its bond to the cover.

Scotch's Heavy Duty duct tape is not nearly as heavy duty as Gorilla tape. It is thinner, less sticky, and not nearly a durable. In every way Gorilla tape comes out ahead in our applications. The only real advantage to Scotch's tape is that there is more of it per roll, and so it's about 20% cheaper than Gorilla tape. For some jobs, it probably doesn't matter which tape you use, so cheaper comes out ahead--but when you're trying to affix 30x40 foamboard signs to a brick wall, Gorilla tape is the clear winner.

5.0 out of 5 stars If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If it IS broke, fix it with this great duct tape!!!, April 16, 2011

I 100% totally agree with T.Bair's review!!! Why mess around with mid grade adhesives when All Weather cuts to the chase with maximum sticking power! Great for fixing things instead of having to buy new, which is the name of the game in this economy! I've used this to fix everything from a rain boot with hole in the heel area (saved me from having to give my boot "the boot." LOL!!!) to a cardboard moving box that had just about gotten worn out from two back to back moves. Hey, wasn't expecting to move but my relationship hit a rough patch and had to sofa surf for a month before getting settled in my new studio apartment. You know what they say! This is how LIFE IS! Unfortunately a relationship can not be fixed with duct tape. You have to talk it out! I'm willing but very hard to get ex on phone these days. So I moved out and had to pack and repack a few times. Used the 3M 2245 Heavy Duty All-weather Duct Tape to fix a U-haul box that was just about to give up the ghost. NOT SO FAST!!! This duct tape made the box BETTER than new and got me into my current living situation. Think I may be here awhile. Maybe when/IF Suzanne and I get back together I can put some of this tape over my mouth so I don't say something idiotic to get kicked out again. WHATEVER! She eats tons and tons of Pringles and then complains about her weight. I was JUST BEING HONEST!

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good duct tape, October 6, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 3M 2245 Scotch Heavy Duty All-Weather Duct Tape, 1.88-Inch x 45-Yard, 1-Pack (Tools & Home Improvement)
Scotch Heavy Duty All-Weather Duct Tape is very good duct tape, but to be honest, I don't notice much difference than regular duct tape. Scotch Heavy Duty All-Weather Duct Tape seems to be a little stickier, which perhaps gives it its "all-weather" properties. It is not any thicker or heavier than my regular duct tape. Scotch Heavy Duty All-Weather Duct Tape is good duct tape and only costs slightly more than regular duct tape. If you're going to be using it where it will be exposed to weather, than I recommend it. If not, you can save a couple of dollars and stick with regular duct tape. One other note. The picture makes the tape's color look almost black. It is not. It is charcoal gray.

3.0 out of 5 stars Tape color, March 16, 2011

Description did not list color of tape. The tape is gray in color. Most outdoor duct tape is black. Because you normally use outdoor duct tape to wrap insulation on copper lines to your outdoor a/c unit. The insualtion is black and black tape blends in better. I would not of purchased this tape had I know it was gray.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Product Overpriced, May 19, 2011

I didn't look around and bought this at the listed price. I recently went to a local store and found it for a 1/3 of the Amazon price. So, it is my fault for not looking. The product itself is great and works like a charm and has many uses.

I didn't do my home-work but I recommend you get it locally at a much better price.

5.0 out of 5 stars very strong tape, January 12, 2012

This review is from: 3M 2245 Scotch Heavy Duty All-Weather Duct Tape, 1.88-Inch x 45-Yard, 1-Pack (Tools & Home Improvement)

My Mercedes wagon had a leaking sunroof so I did a google search for the best made duct tape and this came up. I triple taped it and ran it a whole Oregon winter up and down I-5 and about 8 times thru the car wash and it really held up. About 5 times better than ordinary duct tape and is actually formulated for use outdoors. Excellent stuff.

doesn't seem any different than regular duct tape, maybe a little less sticky if anything. not entirely impressed with this version, maybe it has potential to resist sunlight better but i won't be needing that.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very Low Quality Duct Tape, November 4, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 3M 2245 Scotch Heavy Duty All-Weather Duct Tape, 1.88-Inch x 45-Yard, 1-Pack (Tools & Home Improvement)
I purchased duct tape online hoping to get a roll that wasn't your average paper weak cheap walmart crap. Unfortunately I was fooled by this item and it's claim to be "Heavy Duty All-Weather". I will never buy scotch brand duct tape ever again. I should have known that the makers of the tape you use for elementary school projects and gift wrapping wouldn't do well in the industrial strength tape department.
At a glance:
Lacks a strong adhesive.
Paper thin.

If you're willing to spend this much money on tape, as I was, go for gorilla tape. It's by far the best tape I have ever used.
