Use it carefully, and you'll find you can take out those annoying scratches and scrapes on those painted plastic bumpers the manufacturers now saddle us with.

More aesthetically pleasing than using rub strips and having your car look like a taxicab.

5.0 out of 5 stars Caution: This stuff is like crack., June 25, 2008

Caution: This stuff is like crack. You are not going to want to use ANYTHING but this rubbing compound on your car.

I was about to buy something totally different for the oxidation on my car and the clerk at Kragen Auto recommended 3M Rubbing Compound. For months I thought I was going to need a new paint job on my recently purchased '99 Altima. This stuff works!!! Now I keep peeking out the window to look at my shiny "new" car.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good product, January 8, 2007

Rubbing compound has just become my best friend. If only I had found it sooner, I wouldnt have had to waste all that 4000 grit sandpaper when lapping heatsinks.

4.0 out of 5 stars Effective on stainless steel, May 7, 2010

I bought this after reading online forums on how to remve scratches from stainless steel. My rerigerator and freezer were badly scuffed by a contractor, and this stuff buffed out the scuff marks. My stainless is the "cheaper" version which will hold a magnet, so I cannot say if this will work on "true" stainless. It did not remove the deeper scratches (which I did not expect it to), but it did clean up the scuff marks. The finish is a little shinier where I used the product, but better than the scuffs. Work slowly and don't rub too hard and this will clean up scuff marks.

This product is a great tool to take out the swirl marks and fine scratches off the paint, one should know that it should be applied panel by panel either by hand or buffing machine / the one complaint that i have is the bottle arrived with a different look and on it it did not say that it is Perfect it II.

Very happy with this product as a step to use just before polishes.

In order
Wet Sanding
Coarse Rubbing Combound
** This product (Perfect-It rubbing compound)
Mid polish
Fine finishing polish

If you've got some deep scratches and want to get rid of the light haze left over from Coarse rubbing compounds, use this! It won't leave the car at show room shine, but will get the clearcoat to the point where it is ready for polish.

5.0 out of 5 stars Results were 'way better than expected, October 13, 2011
This review is from: 3M 39002
I had this stuff sitting on the shelf JUST IN CASE and the opportunity finally lent itself to use it. Bought my son's '06 Lexus IS 250AWD and let's just say he's not very aware. The car sat outside near the ocean for months and the clear coat was so oxidized that the metallic dark blue looked like one-step grey. Worse, I had this laying around so long that the bottom of the bottle cracked and I taped it up a while ago but it did dry out. I figured what the heck, I have it, might as well use it and added some water back until it looked "right", whatever that is.

I first used a clay bar and that usually does a real nice job. Not this time (uh oh) but it did pull off the rocks and dead gerbils. I used a consumer-grade 10" orbital buffer with a fair amount of material applied and lightly went over the paint. It brought the color and shine back immediately, so much so that the few spots I missed really stand out. I even buffed out a spot that I created using regular paste-in-a-can compound. Yes, I can be a real dufus.

I highly recommend this stuff, it's very reasonably priced and I see it available at a lot of automotive paint supply places where I think I bought this. I do Amazon for all this now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magic, April 24, 2011

After going through a crash course on applying clear-coat to a 2004 Cadillac that had a run in with a rake, I learned all about wet-sanding and compound. After reading everything I could on the subject, I ordered this compound. My prior attempts with 2000 grit sandpaper and polishing compound left the car's finish looking horrible. Within minutes of using 3M Perfect-It the finish began coming back. The car looks like a Cadillac again.

I then used it on my 1996 Lexus ES 300 that is very well kept, but had minor scratches in the clear-coat. The 15-year-old Lexus now looks like it just came off the showroom floor even under harsh fluorescent lights.
