I put this tape on a set of stained wooden steps leading to the upstairs of my house. To give some background, these steps look really nice, but they are super slippery and I have had one person fall partway down them and numerous close calls because the steps give no traction in socks and are too narrow in some areas to get much of your foot onto the actual step. This product looked promising to me because it is clear and was advertised as not being so abrasive as to irritate bare feet. I started off by applying a single strip across the steps about 1/2 inch away from the lip of the stair. This helped a lot, but the real improvement came when I applied a second strip onto the step about an inch inward from the first strip (so there is a 1 inch gap between strips). This really helped, and I haven't had any worries about going up and down the stairs ever since! They work great whether you're wearing socks, shoes, or barefoot. My only advice would be to clean the surface thoroughly as recommended by the manufacturer before applying. Not only will the bond be better, but believe me if you trap any dirt under this stuff you WILL see it after you put it on (made that mistake for the first step)

I've only had these on for about 1-2 months but so far they don't look too dirty and they're definitely not showing any signs of lifting. Highly recommended!

We bought this tape for a wooden staircase to enhance the grip.

We chose light-duty so it would not feel too harsh on bare feet - and indeed it isn't. However that was probably a mistake, as it also means lower grip. While increasing the safety of the stairs, I would choose differently and go with higher duty and higher grip.

The clear tape provides a very good look, almost invisible, so it was great on the wood. Clear color was definitely a good choice.

Lastly, the 1-inch width is very good; it allows you to put two slightly separated strips on each step (e.g. two inch apart), and get a more effective grip area.

The tread on this clear 3M tape is so low profile that it slid smoothly across both skin and fabric when I tested it. Am returning it to Amazon for a refund.

After reading a few reviews I was happy to get this light tread tape on my steps. My wife took a slip down the bottom four stairs and I ordered this the next day. I read a couple of reviews and was a little hesitant that the light tread would add enough grip to our wood stairs. It does. I put a 20" strip about 1" from the edge of each stair and we have not slipped a single time since (we're both in our mid-20s and fit, so falling down stairs shouldn't happen if there is grip). The price of the tape was worth it, especially knowing that it will do the job.

In terms of color and visibility on the wood, we have maple wood stairs and from most angles you can't even tell the tape is there. Coming down the stairs you can see the tape, but not because of the color, mostly because it changes the texture of the step so you see the difference.

One roll could probably do 5 flights of wood stairs, 10 steps per flight.

Our hardwood stairs are much less slippery now if you go down them in socks. Barefoot, the slippery-ness isn't much affected. I think the product works as described though I would have liked the tape to be a little more rough. I researched extensively on 3M's website to figure out which one to buy and do wish I had gone with one that's slightly more rough. All in all though, it's a huge improvement to our stairs after a bad fall carrying the baby down in socks.

We have some steep hardwood stairs with a slick finish. We've had some close calls with slipping so I bought this tape. This particular one doesn't have a great amount of tooth so if you're looking for something that you really can grip then you might want a heavier tread. However this one works fine for us. It provides a little bit of grip and doesn't bother barefeet. It's very easy to apply and you can hardly notice the "clear" on top of the wood. We placed it near the lip and at first we thought that it might not provide enough grip (as the other reviewer found) but after some use we think it's just right. Good useful product

Great product. It's worth the high price tag (considering it's just tape), because it's pretty much see through and offers great anti-slip protection. It's stayed put nicely for a few months now. House guests don't even know it's there until it's pointed out to them.

The clear tape almost disappears. We used it in the shower and in the bathtub to make it safer. It works perfectly and looks really good.

This product works as claimed. Use it on varnished wooden loft ladder and on bottom of bathtub. Tape has been in place for a while now and works great in both applications. Clear tape does not alter appearance, as desired. Very satisfied!

Each side of the rolls have a white chad that comes from when 3M cuts the rolls from larger rolls. You can't brush it off. So if you are going to lay the tape on a darker surface you have to work very slowly and carefully to avoid capturing the white chad under the tape.
