5.0 out of 5 stars Great for lawn mowing
I use the 3M 1860 N95 respirator for mowing the lawn, and it is great. I'm allergic to the grass, as well as other debris from the lawn mower. Without a respirator (or even WITH one that doesn't filter as well) I have trouble breathing afterward. This is just the product for me.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unreliable and unsafe
These are unreliable and unsafe. The straps routinely break unexpectedly. I've had one of them snap in as little as half an hour after I put it on. I just had one fall off my face into the mortar I was stirring. What's the point of having a mask when it falls apart when you need it? If you're around any sort of hazardous material, stay away from these and find masks that...

5.0 out of 5 stars N95 1860, September 10, 2006
I use this mask almost daily. I have problems with scents like perfume, cologne, candles, cleaning products, etc. These masks allow me to be near these areas.

5.0 out of 5 stars TB or Not TB; That is the Question!, June 8, 2007

Heady "Idea" (Amelia Island, FL) - See all my reviews

I ordered this product to protect myself from getting sick while flying. While waiting at the gate for the last flight I took, I noticed some very sick, symptomatic people waiting for my flight and I was unprotected. And guess what, I became very ill 3 days after flying. A client of mine recommended an "N-95" mask, so I googled and found the best price on Amazon. When the product arrived, I was impressed with the quality and especially the breatheability. Two weeks later the story broke about the man that flew with TB. But I am now protected. An unexpected bonus was that this mask saved me and allowed me to continue working during the raging wildfires in Southeastern Georgia/Northern Florida, in the region where I live. The smoke hung in the air thicker than fog.

4.0 out of 5 stars Health-care Workers Use Masks Rated N95, September 28, 2010
This review is from: 3M 8210Plus Particulate Respirator N95, 20-Pack (Tools & Home Improvement)
3M 8210 N95 Particulate Disposable Respirator - the "N95" means that if the mask is properly fitted, it will filter out particles down to .3 microns 95 percent of the time. That's great for particulate matter but not sufficient against flu bugs - yet quite helpful.

The types of viruses that cause respiratory illnesses measure between .1 to .2 microns. That means that while this mask will probably stop most of the flu viruses from getting through, it is not dense enough to stop them all. That is why the product description mentions dust and particulate matter but makes no claim or mention of viruses.

Masks with a high enough efficiency rating to stop viruses are incredibly uncomfortable. I've never worn one but consider that the Center for Disease Control (CDC) advises health-care workers working with SARS patients to wear the N95 mask - same rating as this one. Even the CDC does not expect people to function at work wearing masks with super high efficiency ratings. Therefore I'm not getting a superior rated mask because they are immediately uncomfortable and I might not be able to function wearing one. Health-care workers will be wearing masks rated N95.

The N95 masks are also valued because viruses often travel on bigger molecules such as molecules that contain mucus. N95 will stop all of those.

I would suggest this box of 30 as a good emergency supply and perhaps a better deal:3M 8000 Particle Respirator N95, 30-Pack.

5.0 out of 5 stars 3M 8210 Particulate Respirator, December 28, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 3M 8210Plus Particulate Respirator N95, 20-Pack (Tools & Home Improvement)
Respirators are great for use when getting up leaves or mowing the lawn. I use them regularly during fall for my lawn business. The straps are not durable for long-term use, but usually last as long as the mask stays breatheable. The straps need to be stretched evenly before the mask is first put on or it may seem too tight. One at a time stretch each strap a section of the strap at a time. Much better than the single strap nuisance respirators. Price was awesome on an open box. Wish I had ordered two of them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great woodworking dust mask, November 16, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I've tried at least 8 different masks. This is hands down the best. It is comfortable, the two straps provide a tight seal so dust does not leak in through the sides. Best part, no "hacking cough" after using with 220 grit power hand sander.

Unlike other reviews, I've never had a strap break, even after using hundreds of this mask.

You can tell it is working because it get dirty, unlike other masks that stay clean. In other words, all the dirt is stuff that would have gone into your lungs!

4.0 out of 5 stars The lesser of all evils, January 27, 2007
I can't say I love wearing anything on my face, but these are my mask of choice unless the job requires a full blown respirator.

Pros: The metal strip is strong enough to keep it's shape and obviously maleable enough to shape it in the first place. The straps are strong and secure without being too tight.

Cons: Apart from wearing one at all, I have no problems with it. I've had a few straps come off in past years, but not lately. If you encounter this problem, stretch the rubber before putting in on your face the first time.

I've used others and am reminded of what 3M has to offer... especially compared to AOSafety products...

Wild fires in San Diego make these filters a blessing. Perfect fit, love it. Also useful for protection of others when you have a bad cold. Two elastic straps help hold it in perfect position.

4.0 out of 5 stars List Price? Amazon Discount?, February 12, 2006
I trust 3M products generally...highly innovative company and stuff they make that is copied (like duct tape) is never as good as the 3M original. That said, why is Amazon stating the "list price" is $16 for these masks, when you can get them direct from PK Safety Supply (Amazon's supplier) for $13.75...the same as Amazon?

Anyhoo...maybe its convenient for you.
