I did have to adjust the height but was able to do that by loosening and tightening the screws by hand.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
I have long looked for a well constructed foot rest that would improve my ergonomics at my home office. This fits the bill in many ways with some draw backs.

The wide platform allows for shifting of position while still supporting the feet.

This is solid and well constructed. This will outlast any plastic foot rest several times over.

Adjusts easily -- I have left the angle adjustment loose so I can rock my feet back and forth allowing for increased flexibility and comfort.

Stays in place and does not walk along my carpet (unlike the lighter weight one I have at work)

Since I use this at home I am often bare foot. Unlike the one at work (which is plastic) I can not with bare feet slip my feet along the edge to reposition it.

Overall, this is a much better footrest than the cheap plastic ones I have had at work settings.

update 11/28/2010 --

First of all I really like this footrest. It has really made my home computer desk much more comfortable.

The only draw back is the edges. I have repeatedly scraped my feet on the edge of the footrest. I put duct tape along all the edges and have not scraped my toes any more. This is the one design flaw. The edges are a bit sharp and some sort of guard along the edges should have been part of the design.

I could see this not only scraping toes but also shoes.

PROS
A pretty well built unit, as it's entirely made of steel. Not so strong that you'd want to jump up and down on it, but you won't have to worry about plastic parts cracking and breaking. This unit should last multiple lifetimes.

CONS
Lacking in features, because the ones that are there weren't well executed.

1. Height adjustment only allows you to raise the unit about 3/4 inch. Such a small amount that it's almost not worth being there. It works for me (I'm 6ft tall), but for someone with shorter legs it may not raise high enough. They should've added a 2nd adjustment for better flexibility.
2. Tilt adjustment is useless. The platform is attached to the base with 2 bolts, which act as an axle. I tightened them almost to the point of stripping, but it won't hold the platform in place. It always rocks down to the full angle towards me as soon as I put my feet on it; and it's impossible to keep it flat, which is what I want.
3. Edges are exposed rough metal, that can cut your feet or damage shoes. I got some vinyl door edge guard from a local auto parts store, and wrapped it around the edges. That works really well, but it should already be there. This is a safety issue.

OTHER
With mods you can make it fit your needs, but only if you're a handyman. I'll probably drill a couple more adjustment slots on the base with my rotary tool, and use that to lock the platform in place with some wing nuts. Really should have been included in the design.

I bought one for my office and I find it to be so comfortable I'm buying a second for my home. The wide base, "grippy" surfaces, and lightweight yet sturdy all-metal construction are the big wins in this footrests design.

What's not so great is the "tools required" adjustability. Luckily for me, the factory default was perfectly fine.

3M should be embarrassed to have their name attached to this pile of shaving cream. If I were writing a review solely about the slip-resistant adhesive decals attached to this foot rest--presumably the only part of this pathetic device that 3M had any real involvement with--then I would give it 5 stars. However, that's just the icing on top of this failure cake.

The "adjustable" nature of this foot rest is thwarted by the fact that it cannot be set to a "fixed" position by the two non-locking (metric?!?) bolts that hinge its tilting top surface. Oh, wait--they did think to provide a solution for this: two flimsy rubber "washers" placed between where the top surface plate and base make contact in the hinge. Unfortunately, they barely have the staying power of molasses in the Summertime. Hence, it can merely be made to tilt more or less easily, but IT WILL NEVER NOT TILT. You cannot lock it to stay at a particular angle unless, perhaps, your legs weigh less than a few pounds each.

This might not be a big deal for you. However, if you are in a chair, say, with wheels and those wheels are on a hard surface and you put your feet on this foot rest...you will eventually begin to roll back away from your desk. The obvious solution would be to simply adjust the foot rest surface so that it is perfectly flat and parallel to the floor. But you can't. It will slowly begin to tilt under the weight of your (or my skinny) legs and your fingers will begin to leave your keybo ar d. Sorry about that, I started to roll.

I should have returned this poorly designed product right away, but I'm a handy guy and thought about it for a few seconds before coming up with a simple, inexpensive solution. I drilled a second set of holes next to the main hinge and added another set of bolts so that there is no way of the top surface tilting. It would have cost 3M about .50 cents to add this option. I guess their iron clad quality control just missed it.

I have used foot rests because of my short height for over 30 years. This has got to be one of the best. It adjusts easily, it sticks to the floor. Expensive... but if you want something that works, don't waste money on a cheap plastic one.
