Filter material: Thick, soft, seemingly multi-layered. I feel much better with this material between my lungs and the particulates than with those cheap bulk dust mask. The big problem here is that, despite the exhaust vent, moisture still builds up on the inside which causes the inner-lining to disintegrate and get wooly. Though the material doesn't break off into bits, it's still unpleasant to have warm, moist, wooly material touching your mouth. In fact, it makes the mask too uncomfortable to wear in my opinion, thus severely curtailing the life-expectancy of this product. I'd say I got about 20 hours from it.

Fit: The two adjustable elastic straps do their job well and won't easily break - much better than the rubber band and staple type that break so easily. To help seal the mask, there's a built-in aluminum nose-pinch. The seal material looks like a flexible styrofoam, about 1/16" of an inch, which I don't think is the best sealing material as it's too slick. Also, despite the exhaust valve opening on exhalation and close on inhalation, the lower part of my goggles would still get fogged from the exhalation coming from the top of the mask. This would indicate an imperfect seal/fit which of course means you're likely also inhaling some unfiltered air. I'd have to squeeze the nose-pinch and move the mask further up my face for this to temporarily stop.

Overall, I'd say this is much better than those cheap bulk jobs which are virtually useless. If you need to supply a bunch of people with a good quality disposable, the 8293 P100 may be a good choice. If you're just getting one for yourself and want high-quality dust mask, I'd recommend spending a little more money for a higher-end rubber one with removable filters. Though I haven't tried one yet, that's what I'm getting next. Meanwhile, I'm going overkill with my dual-filter fume/dust respirator. My lungs are the only ones I've got.

Works pretty well for blocking out allergens while working outside, but very uncomfortable. The rubber gasket which runs all the way around the inside of the mask is about 1" wide, and while it is supposed to help the mask form a tight seal around you mouth/nose, it causes you to sweat profusely which makes it very hard to wear during the hot summer months outdoors.

This mask a fine job of filtering out dust as long as you take a few minutes to properly adjust the straps and especially the metal insert in the nose are to get a proper seal. The design makes it easier to wear with glasses than comparable Moldex masks, and the straps are more durable, too.

My only complaint is that the mask is so bulky that it reduces your field of vision below eye level, so you have to incline your head to safely walk around in a work area lest you trip over material or a tool that you would normally see at the lower periphery of view.

I was cleaning up after rats chewed into my shed and wore this along with other protective gear. It was hot outside and the added effort to breathe was uncomfortable and as the other reviewer noted- lots of moisture built up in there. I have never used any others that filtered to this level (this is the level recommended by the CDC for cleaning up after rats) so I suspect a heavy filter is going to make it harder to breathe and that is not the fault of this mask in particular but maybe I am wrong there. I would say that if you do not need this high level of filtration that a lower rated mask might be more comfortable. I felt it gave an effective seal on my average for a woman size face. The plastic pieces that allow you to adjust the fit did their job but always managed to scratch my face when I put it on and off.
I got this so that I would not get sick as a result of my cleanup and I did not so maybe this mask was why. An added bonus was that it cut the odor of the mess and cleaning supplies dramatically which is not something I expected of it!

I have been using these masks for several years now when doing remodeling or when working on car brakes....any time I feel the need for protection for my lungs. They are a nice tight fit and seal very well. I used to use the larger North respirator, but these do the job unless you're into asbestos abatement...then you'd best go with something a bit more protective. You can tell when it's time to replace one when it becomes harder to intake on your breathing...to me, that shows they are trapping the nasty particles. Amazon's prices are probably the best and their shipping is superior to the online health and safety websites.

This is a great product for filtering airborne contaminates. It does far more than a simple dusk mask and keeps a tight fit on your face. It's a good alternative to a full face respirator. I really liked how it has a one-way valve, which helps to keep a good seal. I work as an electrician and used it when I came in contact with silica dust, fly ash, and other harmful particulates. I would definitely purchase this product because it is well designed and easy to take with you. I keep one in the top of my hard hat for unexpected situations.

I purchased a high-quality P2 mask, this mask, and a one use ver-cheap mask. This mask is by far superior to the other two. I believe they were all made by 3M.
