I love this product and it is soooo much stronger than the hook and loop fastener! The little mushroom heads fit really well together and there is no "fuzz" to catch all kinds of lint! This combination 400/170--one side of the products has 400 heads per inch and the other side has 170. There is a 250/250 combination that is really great too. Do not try to put 400/400 together as the heads are too close together, they tend to break off! Highly recommend for all types of "fastening" jobs, especially when needed in a hot vehicle or where the adhesive will get warm. Description will tell you temperature limits!

Works great, very hard to separate and hard to push together. If you have to separate frequently I would go with the standard 3m fastener. I used on a small satellite radio on the face of the dashboard of my truck. I had to push so hard to get the tape together that I was afraid I was going to break the radio. Never did get it all the way pushed together. The only reason I got the 3M is because the glue kept melting on hot days on the cheap Velcro I had been buying, and my radio would fall off the dash. The 3M is not supposed to do that but no hot days yet so have to wait and see.

This is an awesome product that provides extremely secure anchoring of all sorts of stuff in places and conditions where competitive products either un-stick from the mounting surface (like car windshields) or creep at the tape to tape connection like hook and loop products do. One big undisclosed negative for me, however, is that it is only black on the side where it connects to another piece of tape. The sticky side is white - so it is very visible from the back side when mounted on glass - you might even say ugly.

Tough stuff. But watch how you cut it, as you can bend, twist, and distort the "fabric." A sharp, heavy-duty pair of shears works best.

What may not be apparent from the description is that you will get TWO rolls, one for each side of the fastener. For some reason I was expecting a single roll of self-mating material. When two showed up, I tried self-mating it. Surprisingly, you CAN get a reasonable mate if you turn one of the pieces of material sideways. Not as strong as using the proper mating material, but not bad if you need a weaker bond with easier removal.

Paired with the proper mating strip, the bond is tight indeed ... to the point where it's hard to pull apart. Like other reviewers, I found that the weak point is the adhesive, not the bond between the mating plastic strips. The adhesive is strong - just not as strong. You have to exercise just a little care when pulling the strips apart once they are fastened down.

Functionally, the somewhat weaker adhesive is the only issue I have with this product. It IS expensive, however. And I find the price hard to justify. the 4-star rating reflects my view of the relative value more than anything else.

Unlike Velcro, there's no hook-side and loop-side. Any two pieces will stick together and stick together pretty well. At first glance you can't see anything that would make two pieces stick together. They do, however...

The adhesive backing will stick to anything and stay stuck to it for a long time. The key to securing a good bond is to clean the surfaces first. I use alcohol and give it a couple minutes to evaporate. It also takes about a day for the adhesive to fully set. You can use the fastener immediately but should hold off pulling at it for that time.

When you press the two halves together there is still that reassuring "click". Both the sideways and pull-away hold is pretty strong. However, you can tug two pieces apart with some effort.

This tape is also reasonably thick. If you want something with the same holding characteristics and a lower profile (with some tradeoffs mentinoed in my review of that product) try 3M Dual Lock Reclosable Fastener TB4575 Low Profile Black

Another limitation, which is clearly stated if you look real close is the Closure Life. That's the number of times 3M claims you can pull two pieces apart and still expect them to stick together. It's listed as 1000 closures and that is probably enough for most applications. I haven't come close to that for any of the places where I'm using this and will report back when they actually start to break down.

Works amazingly well. As long as the surface is thoroughly cleaned and the adhesive allowed to set, it will remain attached to most surfaces for a very long time. So strong, that it does make me wonder about the damage done to walls in trying to remove it, thus think twice about where its placed. The velcro like (though no hook and loop sides) fastener also connects extremely well providing a very secure bond that can be attached and unattached 1000 times - according to 3M. This really is an industrial type fastener, perhaps less suited for internal home use out of concern about damage when removing. Would be very handy in a workshop environment.

For the correct usage, this 3M product can’t be beat.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
This is a set of Velcro-like fastening tape rolls that can be used to attach one object to another. Each of the tape rolls is 1 inch wide by 10 feet long. The outer fastener surface is black plastic, while the inner surface, which comes with a 3M adhesive pre-applied, is white. The fastener surface is a 3M product called “Dual Lock”, which is similar to Velcro in that one side of the tape sticks to the other due to hundreds of tiny hooks, and the two sides can also be easily pulled apart. According to the package, the adhesive on the back of the tape is optimized for metals, glass, “medium to high surface energy plastics” and paints, and the tape has a rated life of 1000 closures.

I found the tape easy to apply. I pressed the two matching pieces together and measured out the length that I needed for my object. Then I cut the two pieces, still attached to each other, off the rolls with ordinary scissors. Once I had my tape strips cut to the right length, I peeled the backing off one side at a time and stuck it where I wanted. According to the package, this tape with its Dual Lock technology is supposed to provide high temperature performance, and it also feels fully waterproof. Looking closely at the Dual Lock side of the tape, it seems to be a bit like Legos, in that it has hundreds of little rounded heads that all fit together, and it lacks the hooks and fluff of Velcro. As a result, you really have to press the two sides of the tape together and squeeze to get them to stick—they're not going to grip automatically just by coming into contact with each other like Velcro. Ideally, this alternative design might give the Dual Lock tape some more strength and weight-gripping capacity.
