Top Customer Reviews
- They're exceptionally easy to peel off, since there's a margin between each label, so anyone with mailing lists would find these a snap.
- The adhesive is not like Crazy Glue for your fingers, so if you were labeling hundreds of items, they wouldn't make your fingertips raw like many other brands.
There's only so much you can say about a pack of labels, but I can't fault these at all.
I have an HP inkjet printer, and several different label designs (multiple colors), so I printed out a sheet for each one. I didn't even have to make any adjustments because these labels work with the Avery 5163 template. The colors didn't bleed or smear on the labels, so I am happy with the print quality. Oh, and they didn't get stuck in my printer, either.
Not only do I use these labels for domestic packages, but also international packages. They don't fall off, and they stick to both cardboard boxes and brown packgaging paper. You don't even need a printer -- you can just write on them with permanent marker, so the address stands out on the package.
I haven't had the need, but I think you could even use them for name tags too.
I tend to print individual labels and sent the sheet through 10 times with little difficulty. My only problem was that the paper "margin" started coming off when I peeled off some of the labels. I tore it off and the sheets continued to feed and print with no problem.
These labels can be used in printers and may be hand written. I like them, recommend them, and will buy them again.
Overall, the 3M and Avery labels have exactly the same dimensions and layouts (which is expected). I find that both are quite easy to peel, and can withstand multiple passes through a laser printer without negative effects.
Using an older LaserJet 1200, both label types printed flawlessly without need for designating paper types or special paper handling instructions. There was a difference, however, when using my newer Laserjet 3055. (The Laserjet 3055 is one of those energy-saving printers and thus will heat the fuser to a different degrees depending on the paper-type setting). For the Avery 8163 label, I found that I needed to set the printer to thick paper/labels in order to print correctly. (If I left the setting to plain-paper by accident, the fuser wouldn't get hot enough so bits toner could literally flake off the page). With the 3M label, even in plain-paper mode, the toner fused successfully. (However I'd still advise setting newer laser printers to thick-paper handling mode when printing labels). Keep in mind that the Avery 8163 is designated as an inkjet label so this isn't really a complaint about its performance, rather just an observation.
In terms of adhesive strength, the 3M really wins hands-down. For both the envelope and cardboard box I tried the labels on, the 3M label simply stuck on with more confidence.Read more ›
