Package includes 4 items:
- Forceps
- Retractor
- nippers
- Leader straighter

FORCEPS
measure about 6 inches long and have a locking mechanism between where you put your fingers, so they will stay closed on your lanyard. When closed the ends that clamp together line up perfectly.

RETRACTOR
The Retractor appears to be quality. Some of the other reviews had complaints about the string used in the mechanism. The one I received is a small cable with a clear plastic covering, so it is not going to snap any time soon. The only complaint I have with this item is that it is designed to attach with a safety pin and I believe that there could be a possibility of it falling off after use if you aren't careful.

NIPPERS
Having access to these will be great since I won't have to get out the scissors on my Leatherman anymore. They close perfectly straight and it appears they will perform marvelously.

LEADER STRAIGHTENER
The Straightener also appears to be quality. It is leather on the outside and rubber on the inside. I have already had use of it and it works great.

For only $12.00 you are getting 4 quality items that will serve you perfectly. You're not going to find a better price for these.

The 3M SA vest pack assortment is a perfect gift for the beginning fly fisher or as a back-up toolkit for a barebones wet-wading set up. The nippers have well aligned blades. The forceps have equally as well aligned jaws. The retractor has medium duty plastic covered wire not a super braid cord. The leader straightener comes with its own snap. I have seen lesser quality assortments available for up to one third more.

Thank goodness for Scientific Anglers; they seem to have an available assortment of tools, especially for the fly-fisherman, tools that are not fancy, but are a value at the lower price. The line straitener is handy, particularly in early spring when you need to get the kinks out. All four items can be easily stored on a fly-fisherman's vest. Inexpensive and a great value.

Good product, as described. The retractor clip could be more substantial than a low test snap swivel, but I suppose you get what you pay for.

Here is another Christmas present from my wife bought through her private Amazon account. It won't show up here as Amazon Verified, but it was.

Scientific Angler seems to know what people need. This is a good pack with fly fishing tools. They are simple, straight forward, useful and sturdy. They've got what you need.

I purchased these items for my first year fly fisherman and the quality seem good. It is winter right now, so we will have to wait for spring to try them out.

I bid on, and won, a guided fly fishing trip from a local hunting & fishing guide last year. After practicing my technique with him throughout the winter, I finally got to go fly fishing for my first time at the end of April '12. I became an instant fan, and talked my wife into an early Father's Day gift of outfiting my already extensive fishing gear collection with everything I needed for fly fishing. Naturally, there are a few essentials that are must-have items for fly fishing. Forceps, line straightener, line clippers/eye cleaners, and a retractable clip are some of them. Buying each of these items at my favorite local fishing & outdoor supply store came up to about $25, and I could not find them in a "kit". I was very happy when I found this on Amazon. The price was perfect, the items of good quality, and it was a single purchase transaction that delivered all of these key items for me.

I am highly satisfied with my experience with Amazon, and the product itself.

As long as you're not expecting to receive top quality tools for the price, you shouldn't end up disappointed. If I had to rank the four items in the kit from best to worst, it'd be:

1) Forceps
2) Nippers
3) Retractor
4) Leader straightener

The forceps and nipper work just fine, and I especially like how tightly the forceps lock.

I wish the retractor had a coated wire, but it doesn't. I also wish it had two pins on the back, instead of one, to distribute the force when pulling on it (I have it attached to a lightweight/thin vest, and sometimes fear it might tear its way through the fabric).

The leader straightener looks nice, but doesn't work very well for me, so I still just use my fingers instead.

Everything works great. The forceps feel a bit cheap (they are about 8 inches, are curved at the very top, and when openning and closing them they stick a bit till you get use to them) but still function fine. Aside from that it's a good deal for $15. Definately recommend it if your on a budget or if you don't need a top of the line brand thats going to run you much more than this.
