Product Description

Product Description

3M Scotch-Weld DP105 clear two-part epoxy adhesive is compatible with ceramic, fiberboard, glass, metal, plastic, rubber and wood materials with a 48 hr cure time. Provides a 4 min working time. Works in a mix ratio of 1:1. Delivers great performance with a shear strength of 2000 psi, tensile strength of 600 psi and peel strength of 35 piw.

From the Manufacturer

3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Epoxy Adhesive DP105 Clear is a very flexible, two-part epoxy adhesive that is effective for glass to metal bonding and sealing. It provides structural strength and bonds on a wide variety of substrates including metals, ceramics, wood, and many plastics. This clear drying, general purpose epoxy begins with low viscosity for easy, controlled dispensing. DP105 Clear provides 100% elongation when cured, making it ideal for applications involving dissimilar surfaces, where coefficients of thermal expansion is a factor. This adhesive also provides the benefit of retaining its clear, colorless properties even when cured in larger quantity, where many clear epoxy systems often turn amber from the exothermic reaction. The mix ratio is 1:1 and provides a 5 minute work life. The adhesive reaches handling strength in approximately 20 minutes and is fully cured in 48 hours (at 720F/220 C). Both mixing nozzle and applicator are required for dispensing from the Duo-Pak cartridge and are sold separately. For best results, always use 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ EPX™ Plus II Applicator and Mixing Nozzles.

What Are Epoxy Adhesives?
Epoxies are polymeric materials that start out as liquids and undergo a chemical reaction to form a solid. These compounds are a major part of the class of adhesives called "structural adhesives," which includes polyurethane, acrylic, cyanoacrylate, and others. Epoxies include two compounds: resins and hardeners. When the two are mixed in their specified ratio they react chemically; and once the reaction has finished, they form a strong and rigid plastic material. Once the two parts are mixed, there is a limited working time in which the epoxy can be applied, ranging from a few minutes to an hour or longer. These adhesives provide better heat and chemical resistance than other common adhesives and those that require heat to cure will be more heat and chemical resistant than those that cure at room temperature. An epoxy based polymer is mechanically strong, chemically resistant to degradation, and very tacky during its working time. Epoxy adhesives are used in the manufacture of buildings, homes, aircraft, automobiles, bicycles, boats, golf clubs, skis, and snowboards, as well as many other applications where high-strength bonds are needed along with resistance to environmental conditions. Epoxy adhesives can be formulated to meet almost any requirement for bonding wood, metal, glass, stone, and various plastics. Using different formulations, epoxies can be made flexible or rigid, transparent or opaque, quick setting or slow setting.

Industrial uses for epoxies range widely and include coatings, adhesives, and composite materials like carbon fiber and glass-reinforced plastic. They are the preferred choice for their ability to flow and conform to the work area, strong adhesion, chemical and heat resistance, and exceptional mechanical and electrical insulating properties.

Good product if you need a strong but elastic bond, such as brittle ceramic or glass on metal. Good for potting loose parts inside a container. Not so great with smooth, shiny plastics, peels off easily from them. Also, the final composition is very transparent without any color, if you manage to mix it without introducing any bubbles. Nice rubbery feel to it. After about 5-6 minutes, the mixture becomes solid enough to be sculpted/trimmed to the appropriate shape, but requires some skill - if you do it too early, it's too sticky and stretchy (like cheese on hot pizza), and if you do it too late, you need a very sharp knife or blade. The time window for "sculpting" is only about 40 seconds.

about to buy some more; this stuff does what it's made for. I use for repairing shoes and wow it's perfect; strong enough you can't poke your fingernail into it but still flexible to deal with a shoe bending; I've repaired 3-4 sets of shoes and have never had a seam come apart.

I have had some glass-to-rubber come apart but just now realized the fact it takes 2 days to cure, which i surely didn't wait that long.

I have had very good results with this product. Yes, you need the applicator gun, but, there are shorter mixing nozzles available so you don't have to discard as much as the longer nozzles. I use it in my lapidary work to secure the backs of my stones to the mountings. It does require some time to set up. I usually give it a couple of days to cure.. Works great

Bad bond. Stuff never hardened past bubble gum in the sand. WORST. If you have a serious job to do, look into WEST epoxies. PS: I have been doing instrument repairs requiring epoxy for decades and swear to you, this is junk!
