5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent "steri-strips" May 14, 2011
Size Name:10 Pack|Amazon Verified Purchase
Typically high quality of 3M product. STRONG packaging to insure sterility is maintained even with rough handling or laying in first aid kit in trunk or car or back pack.

All in package were well sealed. Opened one set to test and they are VERY adhesive to skin. Yes if you try this on your arm you will lose a tiny bit of hair! Hold well under warm running water too. They also flex properly with out "crinkling" while being VERY strong. You are not going to tear these, you will need scissors to cut them if you need to do so.

Remember they are ONLY for skin closure of small or shallow wounds and not a substitute for proper medical care for a more serious wound except in emergency and SHORT-TERM (few hours) first aid situations. Also remember these are NOT a bandage, they have no protective pad to keep out dirt or aid in hemostasis. They are ONLY wound closure strips. If if in a dirty environment you will need to not only clean wound as well as possible, put a protective sterile pad OVER the steri-strips and tape it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Wound Closures - Highly Recommended June 5, 2011
Size Name:10 Pack|Amazon Verified Purchase
These 3M "Steri Strip Skin Closures" are excellent for holding the edges of shallow wounds together and, importantly, did not irritate my very sensitive skin (3M adhesives seem to be the least reactive for me). These stick very well and hold up to sweat and water as well. After applying, I covered the wound site with a sterile non-stick pad and that worked nicely.

These are not for deep wounds, but do make a useful addition to an emergency kit when hiking or camping.

Highly Recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars essential for a lightweight med kit September 15, 2011
Size Name:10 Pack|Amazon Verified Purchase
I keep three of these in my med kit for backpacking. Thin adhesive strips which can be used to close small wounds like a butterfly closure. I find them to stick better and contour to the skin better than butterfly closures especially on elbows and knees.

4.0 out of 5 stars Closer in th field November 25, 2011
Size Name:10 Pack|Amazon Verified Purchase
While hunting in WY this year a knife slipped and cut completly through my right palm. After cleaning the cut I swabed the area with a PDI Compound Tincture of Benzoin "swabstick" (on it's own big Q-tip) to the area where the "Steri-Strips"adhesive would go, to give a 100% clean surface. I was not worried about what type of scar I was going to have, I just knew I needed to close the cut. "Steri-Strips" (along with some PDI Compound Tincture of Benzoin "swabstick") are a MUST in any first responce bag.

Adhesion of Steri-Strips is increased quite a bit by an application of "Compound Benzoin Tincture". More specifically Compound Benzoin Tincture is an adhesive adjunct. This is recommended by 3m, the maker of Steri-Strip. see there PDF on the subject, but I have tried it and it works much better. They still only stay on a couple of days for me if on a finger or someplace that gets used alot.

You apply a coat of Compound Benzoin Tincture to the area where the Steri-Strip will stick. Let it dry, or tack up, and then apply the Steri-Strip. It helps it survive water too, but water should still be avoided if possible. It is OK to get Compound Benzoin Tincture across the wound as well as the area you want to stick. It seals up the wound to some degree. Read about its use by the military on, and in, blisters, as well as to help stick blister bandages and mole skin better. I have heard that using super-glue under the strips works too. Haven't tried that yet.

BTW, I agree, Steri-Strips do work much better then Butterfly Bandages. They stick better especially with the above tip. Compound Benzoin Tincture would probably help butterfly bandages stick better too.

Steri-stips are not a good substitue for stitches on deep wounds that need internal stitches, or areas subject to movement. In those cases you probably need stitches.

I carry small amounts of Compound Benzoin Tincture, steri strips, Provodine Iodine, super-glue, and antibiotic ointment in my pack.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best thing in a kitchen emergency November 11, 2011
Size Name:10 Pack
The first time I saw these was when I Put a kitchen knife them my finger nail and almost thew my finger..... don't ask. The Dr. in the ER couldn't sucher the aria well so they used these. Recently I managed to cut my pinky across the pad, still not sure how. I have them in my first aid kit in the car so I made some one go out and get the kit. We cleaned the wound, I could move my finger with no trouble so I wasn't worried about cutting a tendon so closed it up. I went back to work figuring I would hit urgent care on the way home. I never had a need. They stopped the bleeding, I used non stick gauze pad and med take to keep it clean. no need for a medical bill, and I can tell us from experience they are a lot less invasive then stitches, healing time is cut in half assuming you take care of the wound and the cut isn't to deep.

3.0 out of 5 stars Overall, satisfied but.... July 9, 2012
By John D.
Size Name:10 Pack|Amazon Verified Purchase
Product is as described and arrived in perfect condition.
Wish I had done more research on how to use these prior to purchasing so that I could have also bought 'Compound benzoin tincture'.

Two stars taken off because:
I'm a little disappointed that, although the 3M website says these have a 5 year shelf life, the ones I received have an 'expiry date' of Aug 2015 stamped on them.
So my ones essentially have an expiry date of 3 years.
I know this sounds like nit-picking but I'm not a medic or an EMT.
These are for my emergency preparedness medical kit.
Perhaps I can donate them to someone more likely to use them in January 2015?

Steri-strips are amazing. Get some for your first aid kit. They are basically super strong pices of adhesive that can be used to hold deep cuts closed.

The product delivered was exactly as shown on the web site. This is going in to part of a much larger overall first aid kit. I would order from them again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good.
I'll keep a pack or two in each first aid kit and in each car. When you have to close that wound while on the road or trail it's this, a bandaid or duct tape... :D

5.0 out of 5 stars These should be in every first aid kit.
The skin closures are sometimes called suture strips and are perfect for wilderness first aid or for closing up a wound until it can be treated by a doctor.
