5.0 out of 5 stars Very nice!
I just have to say I love this thing! It's very well made in every way but one though. the wire they chose to use for the USB cable is to stiff and long for a portable laptop device... should have been a mini USB port to give us options on what cord to use and how long. I feel like this it going to get damaged right at the base rather quickly... thats my only...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great product - awful case
The product works well. It is well built, and works well with Solidworks. Because this is lighter than the other models it can be accidentally moved if you push or pull to hard in any given direction. Most of this is completely acceptable as the bottom has a very nice rubber bottom that keeps it in its spot given that the rubber does not get dirty.

The product works well. It is well built, and works well with Solidworks. Most of this is completely acceptable as the bottom has a very nice rubber bottom that keeps it in its spot given that the rubber does not get dirty.

The reason for 3 stars - This is a notebook accessory - it is designed to be taken with you. That being said, the case they give you is made of a shedding fabric that gets the bottom rubber dirty. Obviously a major screwup on their part. The bottom can be cleaned with windex, but otherwise is rather difficult to clean if you don't have chemicals and a non shedding cloth available at your disposal. Forget about using the device with a dirty bottom - do yourself a favor and ditch the case.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Real Hand Saver, December 17, 2011

This review is from: 3dConnexion 3DX-700034 Spacenavigator for Notebooks (Personal Computers)
It took some getting used to but after a week or so of use it became second nature. I'm a 3d artist and I used a mouse all day long especially a lot of middle mouse clicks which started to cause me increasing finger and hand pain. I started to get concerned and did some research on possible solutions and settled on the space navigator notebook edition along with an ergonomEvoluent VM4 Vertical Mouse Right Handed - The Patented Shape Supports Your Handic mouse. The combination has been great I still have occasional pain when I do too many long days back to back but nothing compared to what I was experiencing before. Simply put I don't know what I would do without this device.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works Great on Blender 2.59, August 11, 2011

This review is from: 3dConnexion 3DX-700034 Spacenavigator for Notebooks (Personal Computers)
Had to wait a while for the developers to include support in the next version of Blender, but it's here now in version 2.59! Love it!

I did try it out with Google SketchUp, and it worked fine there too.

The spacenavigator is lightweight, and very responsive. The only thing that concerns me is the seemingly flimsy usb plugin cord. It seems that with as much moving around, packing it up in its storage case and unpacking over and over, that it may wear the cord out, or at least the part where the cord connects with the navigator. Since this is a product for notebooks, it is not going to be sitting stationary for long periods of time.

I have a full size spacenavigator on my desk at work. Work in Catia, Solidworks and Rhino. I can't stand working without it now. Highly recommend these tools for CAD/CAE work.

In days gone by the 3D mouse ( when I used to work on my SGI reality engine ) this was an expensive luxury item I dismissed as a gimmic.
Now that they are far less expensive and support is pretty much universal ( in applicable apps, I use ( lightwave ) LW10 and LW core, I van see what I have been missing!

Must have for the 3D artist.

I purchased this a little while back on a whim, and have not regretted this since. I use this with Lightwave 3D for quickly navigating the around in the scene. It's also great for animating the camera, giving your camera that "handheld" look. Highly recommended.

I've used 3D Connexion's 3D mice for five or six years and can't imagine being without them. I work as a professional digital modelmaker and animator in a range of development programs - Rhinoceros, Solidworks, 3D Studio Max, and SketchUp - and 3D mice at least double my productivity if not more. Samples of my work are at [...]. I bought the notebook Navigator to use when showing models to clients in the field and in public presentations of 3D models. No criticisms I can think of. Well made, smooth, and as portable as a necessarily solid item can be.

This works really well as a portable 3d nav device. Just as sensitive as the Space Explorer, which I use with my desktop computer. I use SolidWorks and it works great. I do wish they made a wireless version, which would be very fitting with the laptop integration for which this is intended. The cord gets in the way, especially if on a plane / car type environment, and makes it hard to pack away in the case. Once up and running, however, the device is great. I highly recommend.

As soon as the first 3D Connection Space Navigator arrived here Everybody Wanted One. The Space Navigator for Laptops is lighter & has a carry case that makes it very convenient to take along with the laptop computer on business trips. It is rugged & works well.
