Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

The Voodoo5 5500 PCI graphics accelerator is the next stage in the evolution of ultra-high-resolution gaming. Utilizing a revolutionary scalable architecture, the 3dfx Voodoo5 5500 PCI features dual VSA-100 chips for more 3-D horsepower. Working in parallel, these processors produce over 667 megatexels per second to create extraordinary 3-D worlds in vivid 32-bit color. Other features include: state-of-the-art, real-time, full-scene hardware anti- aliasing; 64 MB of graphics memory for top performance; and support for 2-D resolutions as high as 2,048 x 1,536 dpi.

The dual VSA-100 chips support 3dfx's T-buffer Digital Cinematic Effects Engine, which brings immersive cinematic special effects to your PC. Motion blur exaggerates movement, while depth-of-field blur renders a scene as if you were viewing it through a real lens by blurring everything but main focal points. Soft shadows adds gentle edges to shadows to give them a much more realistic appearance. The soft reflections effect enables realistic mirror images from semigloss surfaces like polished wood or stone and stainless steel.

With its unique chipset, flashy refresh rate, and cinematic special effects, the Voodoo5 5500 PCI gives today's PC gamers the raw 3-D power and premium 2-D performance they crave. 3dfx backs the Voodoo5 5500 PCI with a lifetime warranty on parts and labor.

5.0 out of 5 stars FSAA must be seen to be believed, August 15, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: 3dfx Voodoo5 5500 PCI (Personal Computers)
I was an FSAA skeptic. Now that I've actually seen the Full-Scene Anti-Aliasing that the Voodoo5 can do, I am amazed! Even old games that looked jagged and dated on a GeForce look great with the Voodoo5's FSAA. With the updated drivers on 3dfx's website, you can also adjust the LOD bias to make blurry textures look crisp and sharp. This card will make all of your existing games look new all over again. The Voodoo5's image quality is better than any other card you can buy. It may not be quite as fast for Quake3 as a GeForce2 GTS, but the image quality is absolutely amazing. No more jaggies, no more pixel popping, and new life for your old games.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best PCI card currently avaiable, December 19, 2000

This is got to be the best graphics card you can buy for the PCI bus. I'm glad 3dfx (now bought out by nVidia) decided to produce a state of the art card for both AGP and PCI. On top of that made the performance very close to the AGP. With Voodoo5 3d graphics, 64 MB Ram, 350Mhz Ramdac and the most support for games, you can't go wrong.

5.0 out of 5 stars Voodoo5 5500 PCI, December 17, 2000

This is a good card and better than I expected. I previously had a original voodoo1 (Monster 3d). This was an add on card only though so you needed to have that along with a 2d card (which was a Matrox Millenium II). So far I am impressed with the quaility of the voodoo5 PCI. Espically now since the price is only 179-200 dollars. Its worth spending the extra to goto the Voodoo5. My system is a PPro 200, and didn't really want to go out and buy a whole new system to play just a couple of games, so I got this card. The 3d and drivers are very good, and the 2d portion seems like it is good also. The image seems sharper and more clear then it previously did. I tried the voodoo5 with Jane's USAF combat simulator and was surprised how smooth it ran, giving the heavy system requirements. I'd say if you need a good 3d card and good 2d as well this is a great buy. Its especially nice if you don't have an AGP slot and still want to get great performance with a PCI.
