More About the Author

Polly Letofsky spent five years walking around the world, and six years writing the book about it. But it was worth it, her long awaited first book, 3mph: The Adventures of One Woman's Walk Around the World has won top honors at the 2011 IPPY Awards as Best Travel Memoir, Best Memoir at the 2011 Writer's Digest Best Book Awards, and was a Finalist in the USA Book Awards.

You can invite Polly to your book club! Polly has made a unique offer to readers of 3mph. If your book club reads 3mph she would be honored to visit your book club as well! She can visit by Skype, or if you're in the Denver metro area the club usually has a pot luck of the foods represented in her book. (She tended to talk about food a lot...), and sure, maybe some of the wines of the various countries as well.

Please feel free to email Polly directly if your club would like to visit. (No, there's no charge -- just feed her.) polly@3mphbook.com.

"Polly's GlobalWalk -- The Documentary" has been produced by Newcastle Productions, currently showing on PBS channels across the United States (and available on Amazon).

I was underwhelmed by "Eat,Pray,Love" so didn't have any real expectations when I started this book....just the interest of seeing what women choose to do that's different. This was really different! Polly has a contagious sense of humor about herself and the people - both nice and nasty - who cross her path. Five years is a big chunk out of one's life - and I admire her strong commitment to the breast cancer cause. The experience seems to prove that when you extend yourself to help others, you receive help back tenfold. Thank heaven she got rid of Tabitha and Sarah! A thoroughly enjoyable and quick-to-read book.

Walking around the world? A woman? Five years? At first it was hard for me to believe that any woman could tackle such a big feat, but after reading 3mph I realized that if any woman could do it, it was Polly.

There were so many times I laughed out loud while reading Polly's story. What a powerful, inspiring, motivating memoir. Polly shares her journey with heart and humor, so if you love "feel good" stories, inspirational tales, and triumphant defeats - this is a book you'll want to read - perhaps over and over again.

When I closed the book, I realized that this wasn't just about Polly's journey, this was about the journey of every person who ever had a dream and needed to take it one step at a time. By the end of this book, you'll realize that you too can do your own "walk around the world!"

Straight-shooting narrative covering Polly's five-year walk around the world. As far as memoirs go, this is certainly more fun and uplifting than most. It's light on navel-gazing and heavy on cultural experiences, many of which are both HILARIOUS and educational. I enjoyed learning about each country that Polly walked through and experiencing the people and places at 3mph instead of by train, plane, or automobile. I thought her overall outlook was generous and lighthearted, and I was encouraged by her story.

As a side note, Polly lives in Denver and recently visited my book club. If she ever does an audio edition of this book I'll get it and listen... her personality is grounded but fun and would add even more to the reader's experience of her travels.

Wow - what an amazing story and it is true! I am so impressed with Polly and her adventure. I would say 99.9% of the people on this planet would not have completed the journey. It is so touching to hear a good story that is not about her ego but a mission with passion that drives a person not to give up. Unlike other travel stories I have read, Polly's trek was completed, with little financial support, initially no human resource support and no book advances. It happened because Polly truly is an amazing person. It comes out in the book that she was her own driver to make a change in our world and one person can make a difference. Take the time to read this book, it is an inspiration.

Polly's journey around the world is an amazing story of determination! This book is like taking the trip with her: I felt I could see the landscape, smell the food, and struggle with the language barriers. I would find myself holding my breath with fear, only to laugh out loud the next second. Polly's sense of humor in the face of adversity must be one of the many traits she utilized to complete this incredible journey! If she could make this trip, and give so much of her time to raise breast cancer awareness, the possibilities are limitless for what each of us could accomplish - if we just put one foot in front of the other! Polly, thanks for letting us tag along!

Wow, it was like I was on this journey with Polly! What an inspiration, proving to all of us that if you believe it, it can be done. Some of the stories are so wild I almost wondered if this really happened. Then I realized, these are stories that even the most creative mind couldn't imagine. This book makes you feel like you are there, experiencing the world with Polly including all of the ups and downs. I am so inspired by this woman's determination to turn a childhood dream into reality. And the breast cancer awareness campaign/fundraising that has transpired through this is incredible. Kudos to you, the first woman to successfully walk around the world!!

"What a perfect book to read right now, when I'm plodding through the formidable life terrain of employment loss and middle age transitioning. I'm getting courage and inspiration from Polly Letofsky's real journey for my metaphorical one. This plucky lady's funny remarks caught me off-guard and I laughed out loud many times through the course of the saga. "3mph" definitely took me out of my own world and into new ones while I was reading it. The people, places and scenes come to memorable life, from the nutty characters at the beginning of her walk, through difficult, sad and scary moments, to the completion of her historic feat. Classic stuff. Wow."

What a terrific read. I read this book on vacation in New Mexico and throughly enjoyed it. Polly's story is one of tenacity, joy, perserverance and an unswerving dedication to the fight against breast cancer. The attention to detail in the book is what sets it apart as Polly travels across all the continents. Whether it is the mystery of China or the joy of Scotland, Polly takes you there with her. I could not put the book down, just to see what was going to happen next!

I loved this book so much I plan to buy several copies for Christmas presents! Salud to my good friend Polly!
