4.0 out of 5 stars the connection of Morningu Musume and Japanese music history, February 19, 2005
By
This review is from: 3rd Love Paradise (Audio CD)
Morning Musume is one of the most famouse idol singers group in Japan. But in Japan, the mean of "idol" is a little different to "idol" said in the world, that is, as the word "idol" is said "aidol" in Japan, the culture of Japanese aidol have evolved with Japanese cultures. It is very difficult that I explain about Aidol concrely because it is with the unique Japanese culture.

In Japan, "Aidol" is used to women singers, not men singers normaly, in addition to that, young, not adult, because "Aidol" is needed that put on showy, cute dress and cute behavior. Youth is Aidol's lifeline. When you listen to Morning Musume songs, will understand about such background a little.

By the way, there are some genres in Aidol, that is, Aidol as a solo singer or Aidol as group singers. Mornig Musume is the latter case. It is normal views that both Aidol types were born in about early 80' though there are some views among Japanese music commenter of TV or magazines.

The Aidol singers till 70' were demanded the techniques as singers mainly, but in early 80',the appearance of Seiko Matsuda, the most famouse Aidol and the pioneer of the genre, changed the concept of Aidol, that is, as I wrote she song with showy and cute behavior. For maintaining the concept, media activities like TV or radio were vital for them, therefore in 80' Japan music, music TV programs were very popular, and the some of cases were chart ranking type programs.

If there may be foreigners who know about that, the main producer of Morning Musume is Tsunku, he belonged to rock band Sya-ran-kyuu(was active about the middle of 90'). Off course he is reflected his sound techniques that he had made for the band activity, to Morning Musume's sounds. But Syarankyuu was a rock band. Why is Morning Musume Aidol singers, not rock singers? The answer is hidden in group aidol history in Japan.

The most famouse and the origin of group type Aidol will be Onyan-ko club(was active from 1985 to 1987, if include the solo and unit type singers, the number 1 top songs of Japanese chart were about 40 songs, the 10 chart songs were about 100 songs. The reason that Onyanko Club got the incredible sales was the promotion in the mean of commece. Onyanko Club was made in a TV program, Yuu-yake-nyannyan, of channnel 8 Fuji-TV. The program was a valiety show. In the program, many projects were made, thefore Onyanko got big popular, that is, were called "Media Tied-up project". When the program was broadcasted, Tsunku was junior-high or high school students, off course he was a hot Onyanko fan like many boy teenagers at that time.

After Syarankyuu broke up, Tsunku got new ambition, that is, he though that he wanted to make the Onyanko type group Aidol that he devoted to once. And by chance, one day he got his music program in channnel 12, while he used the program very well, he made Morningmusume in the program, and that was "Media tied-up project" certainly.

If you are hot Morning Musume fans, it may be good choice that you listen to Onyanko club songs and understand about Japanese aidol history.

"History repeat"

I am writing about Japanese songs mainly 80' or early 90' on Amazon. If you have interests, please watch my other reviews.

Thank you for reading poor English.

5.0 out of 5 stars Morning Musume 3rd Love Paradise, January 2, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: 3rd Love Paradise (Audio CD)
Well, what can I say about Morning Musume? This CD is one of those Cd's you can listen to over and over again and never get tired of it. Two of Morning Musume's biggest hits are on this CD; Love Machine and Koi No Dance Site. Both those songs are awesome, and then there are other songs like 'Why' that are also really cool. This is a must buy CD.

3.0 out of 5 stars not bad, but..., October 3, 2005
This review is from: 3rd Love Paradise (Audio CD)
hmmm, this isn't a bad album, with some great songs on it (Dance suru noda is probably the best) but others like Koi no Dance Site (rubbish!) and Love Machine (rip-off of 'Venus') just wreck the album. And all the talking throughout is most annoying.

This is far cry from the second album, but I guess it's hard to repeat perfection. Tsunku should never have drafted GoMaki, and should've folded the whole MoMusu thing up when Ayappe left to get married, but that's just a personal opinion. Do yourself a favor, and leave this album on the store shelf.
