4.0 out of 5 stars Guaranteed to leave you in stitches
As any fan of the show, 3rd Rock from the Sun, knows, the Solomons are a group of aliens, sent from another galaxy to study the earth and humanity. This quirky book is a distillation of all of the things that the Solomons learned. Sadly, as every fan of the show knows, every lesson they learned is hilariously wrong! 3.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book Written While 3rd Rock Was at its Best
This is an excellent report by Dick Solomon to the Big giant Head on the oddities and behaviours that we inferior humans partake in our day to day lives. Written after the first year of the show, this book still has the naivety of Aliens discovering many human traits, customs, and social interactions for the first time which disappeared after a few seasons of the show...

This book is so incredibly funny. You'll be laughing all the way to the next galaxy. A must-read for fans!In what other book would you find Harry's Movie Reviews, where he says that "Showgirls" is a good film for youngsters. I quote him in that, "the dance sequences will dazzle young and old alike." A quick read, and not one that you will soon forget

I am a huge fan of this show, and I think that this book is the funniest thing I have ever read! It is filled with zillions of pictures, color and black-and-white, and tidbits from each character on everything imaginable and unimagineable! I reccomend this book to anyone who loves this fabulous show, and is in the mood to laugh uncontrollably!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars I liked it a lot, February 24, 2011

This review is from: 3rd Rock from the Sun: The Official Report on Earth by High Commander Dick Solomon (Paperback)
3RD ROCK FROM THE SUN: THE OFFICIAL REPORT is a pretty funny book, funnier than I had expected it to be. Following a brief introduction from actor John Lithgow, who played family head Dick Solomon on the 1996-2001 NBC series, the book maintains the conceit that it is really a report written by Dick Solomon, with contributing articles written by his family, to explain to the Home Planet some of their experiences and to offer tips on how to survive and live well among the locals. Despite trial and error and hilariously painful experience the Solomons never shirk their cause. This is not to say that their efforts at mimicing earth life are always successful: Dick bullies his college's maintenance department to build a second wheelchair ramp into his office building despite the disabled students' request that he do no such thing. (Give the man a cause and he is off to the races.) Through observation, Dick's sister Sally learns how to buy liquor in a package store (always accuse the girl at the register of stealing her credit-card number, she advises).

The book holds numerous tables and asides and a glorious color photo section in the middle. What you won't find represented here are actors who became regulars or semi-regulars later than the first year of the show, such as SNL vet Jan Hooks, who plays the landlady's somewhat sexually wayward daughter and gets it on with Harry Solomon; or Wayne Knight ("Newman" on SEINFELD and here "Officer Don"), who strikes up a romance with the lusty Sally. Happily, 3RD ROCK: OFFICIAL REPORT maintains its silliness until the very end, with a parody Index containing entries ("Eocene Era," THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE) that have absolutely no referent in the text itself. FWIW I got a copy in very good condition at a very low cost. Clearly the cyber-market does not assign a big dollar cost to the work. But any cult has its devotees, and I for one love to sit up 'til 12:30 a.m., when I can, to watch the sitcom on a local Chicago station. The show's heady mix of satire, slapstick, and fish-out-of-water topicality, are all sent over-the-top by the acting prowess of the cast, especially the various Solomon characters and Jane Curtin in the thankless role of Dick's sometimes girlfriend and perpetual comic foil. (There is rarely a show in which Lithgow's character Dick doesn't blaze with grandiosity, and boy is he fun to watch!)

3RD ROCK FROM THE SUN the book is short, barely 130 pages, and half of that in photographs. One good sitting in my case. Well, if nothing else I have given myself a cheap hobby -- I continue to relish the reruns and they're free! Complete episode guides can easily be found on the Web.

A humourous little handbook to understanding 3rd Rock From the Sun. It was fun to read as a big fan of the show but if you aren't a fan, you might not get it. Hilarious!
