5.0 out of 5 stars Americans miss out on a lot, not having German hip-hop
I am from the States, but my exchange student from Germany brought this cd and I was blown away, because it was so damn good. We Americans miss out quite a bit, even if you don't understand, it still rocks, but you should look the lyrics up anyway, because they are hysterical

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not great.
I first heard "Die Fantastichen Vier" on their "Vier Gewinnt" album (because of their "Die Da" hit). "4:99" is much more ambitious, and incorporates a lot of other elements, such as the gospel choir in "Le Smou", but I much prefer their "Vier Gewinnt" album. "4:99" is nice background music, but is...

I was an exchange student last year in Dresden,Germany and that is where I found out about this group. 4:99 is not their best cd, but it is still hella good. If you are not sure about buying it you should even if you do not speak German!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fanties go interactive!!!, August 17, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: 0.24 (Audio CD)
The commends of the songs are already mentioned in the other reviews, but what's not mentioned is the interactive part of the cd. The Fanties show their best side on the cd with weblinks and a videoclip of "Mfg", but also the videoclip "Original", Swiss rap group "Sens Unik" teamed up with The F4 and came with this song. It's a combination of German and French -rap (the german lyrics are performed by S.M.U.D.O. and Michibeck a.k.a. Dee Jot Hausmarke), it's a great song with funky beats and great lyrics.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best CDs I Own, September 22, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: 4:99 (Audio CD)
I don't speak much German - I take a class, but it's low level stuff - and I love this CD. Some of it may be hard to understand, but it's still a really great investment. And for people who do speak German, if you've heard any of Die Fantastichen Vier's songs before and liked them, you'll love this. I guarantee.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not great., October 7, 1999

I first heard "Die Fantastichen Vier" on their "Vier Gewinnt" album (because of their "Die Da" hit). "4:99" is much more ambitious, and incorporates a lot of other elements, such as the gospel choir in "Le Smou", but I much prefer their "Vier Gewinnt" album. "4:99" is nice background music, but is generally slower than "Vier Gewinnt". Obviously there's quite a lapse in years between "Vier Gewinnt" and "4:99", so I haven't kept up with their musical changes over the years. So maybe "4:99" wouldn't've been so disappointing if I had kept up. :) I'm on my way to CDNow and order their "Vier Gewinnt".

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome..., May 25, 2000

I think this is a good c.d. Unfortunately, I can't speak nor understand any German. But fortunately for them, their music transends any possible language barrier. I find these guy's voices soothing, sultry, sexy. I love the c.d.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mit Freudlichen Grussen, April 14, 2008

Who could have known that a song that sounds like a daft receiting of the alphabet could have lent itself to so much social commentary. This album is great, I had an exchange student ship it to me after he got back home to Germany. I only wish that I could comprehend more of the language than I do. This is a perfect companion piece to their earlier Vier Gewinnt.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Album, February 6, 2004

This is a great album. Excellent lyrics, great
production. It's been a favorite of mine since
I first heard MfG in 1999...If you speak German,
you need this cd. If you don't, you should buy
it with an open mind...listen to music from the
rest of the world that would be great here (if
we could play music that doesn't have to be in
English).

This album is great...hardly any low spots & the
FV taking the piss out of each other and the listener
in between tracks is great. These guys are hilarious and
intelligent.

5.0 out of 5 stars the fantas rule, September 26, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: 0.24 (Audio CD)
If this is the first german hiphop you hear, then you`ve missed your life. not only the lyrics of german hiphop are great the sound is just as good. look out for "dein herz schlaegt schneller" of the "fuenf sterne deluxe" and you know what i`m talking about. i`m a german myself and i grew up with german hiphop. I tell you: if you have the opportunity to get the album "Lauschgift" of the fantas, go get it. by the way: Michi beck (known as DJ-Hausmarke) made a album "Weltweit" on his own and Thomas Duerr (konwn as Thomas D.) made a Album "Solo". they are both (hausmarke and thomas) members of the fantas. if you need more information: i can help, perhaps.

I'm from Germany myself and i live in the US, and i just want to say that this Album is the greatest. If you get this CD and you cant speak german, you'll definately have to get a dictionary because you just can miss these lyrics, they are very unique and just unbelievingly intelligent. You have got to get this CD.
