4.0 out of 5 stars Different but still worth the wait, July 9, 2002

Anyone who expects a band to sound the same after almost 20 years is crazy. Ronnie and the band have changed with time and while this album does not rock as hard as 1,2 and 3 it still has some great playing and vocals. LAST MAN ON EARTH is a great track. Denny Davey and Glenn sound great. Ronnie is always good. The album has a more blues feeling than the old hard rock sound. I don't agree with the other review on this site that said it was a waste of money. Some people want every thing to stay the same. I say support the artist is you like them and by doing that you try the album and see if you like it.

3.0 out of 5 stars More bluesey-AOR, but good, October 23, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: 4 (Audio CD)
I kind of agree with both reviews below, apart from the waste of money comment. If you specifically wanted another Montrose or Gamma album picking up exactly where they left off, this isn't quite what you'd expect - there's nothing on here like 'Four Horsemen', so maybe it is a waste of money if that's the only criteria.

But if you have broader tastes, still like Montrose & Gamma, also like sometimes bluesey, middle of the road classic inspired rock done very well, you'll be happy. Personally I can't abide vanilla mainstream oldschool rock (Bon Jovi etc) but Montrose's playing lifts this one notch above the mainstream pap.

Give it a few listens to sink in, maybe with headphones on - you can still clearly hear it's Montrose in the details, cutting through the overly emotive mainstream vocals (most of these songs have embarrassingly cliched American Rock Song (TM) lyrics, but hey, so does everything Bruce Springsteen does, so if you like 'the boss', you won't mind). The guitars sound fantastic, if you're into playing you might appreciate this even if just for that aspect.
