The best band America's never heard...,
By A Customer
This review is from: #4 Record (Audio CD)
Australia's great You Am I should be massive. They're smart, they write great songs, they put on an absolutely INCREDIBLE live show...THEY JUST PLAIN ROCK. But due to prodigous record label bumbling, their discs sit on shelves collecting dust. (Hourly, Daily is worth whatever you gotta pay for it) #4 Record is a guitar rock record, loud and noisy, but great songs there at the core. If you like the Replacements, the Kinks, the Who, garage rock, etc, you'll love You Am I. It took me exactly one live show, and I was buying everything I could find. Tim Rogers is one of the best songwriters on the planet, and Andy and Rusty are perfect complements. Time to wake up, America...

Classic Riffs,

You Am I are a band that is very popular down here in Australia. Tim Rogers, who is the backbone of the band is an undeniably talented songwriter, with the ability to combine classic rock 'n roll elements and melodic ballads seemlessly. #4 Record is my favourite album by You Am I...it contains many favourites that have almost reached folk status in Australia such as "Heavy Heart" and "Rumble" just to name a few. I highly recommend this album.

Australia loves 'em so why the heck don't we?,

I've been listening to You Am I's '#4 Record' regularly for over 6 months now, and I still believe it's one of the finest pop releases in a long long while. It's smart, hooky and there's some backbone in there too. While the rhythm section is tight and bouncy, Tim Rogers' fine guitar playing is complemented by his ever expanding vocal outputs. This one contains sounds reminiscent of everyone from early Stones to The Jam, but be sure not to miss their last couple either ('Hourly, Daily' and 'Hi Fi Way'), which sadly lack decent distribution in the States. And this recording certainly does not tell the whole story. If you see these guys live, they just might blow your mind with one of their wildly energetic performances. It is time for America to enjoy what is already recognized by the masses in Australia..... You Am I is the band of the decade, dang it!

Great Australian Rock Music,

This is the second You Am I album i got and it is a fantastic album. Tim Rodgers is really a fantastic songwriter. You Am I CAN rock, and show this on tracks such as "Rumble", "Junk" amd "Billy". Also, Tim & the band can slow things right down, and this is reflected on such songs as "Heavy Heart", "Top of the Morn" and "Guys, Girls & Guitars". Guitar is very good, using feedback, tremolo & medolic guitar solos very effectively. My personal favorite track is "Top of the Morn & Slip of Day", it just has this fantastic vibe which you look for in a song. I highly recommend the purchase of this and other You Am I albums.

Brilliant...,

You Am I are without doubt one of the best rock 'n roll outfits today! Their songs are catchy, but contain all of the elements that have nurtured my love for music all of these years. If you can get your hands on any of their other records, including Tim's solo record, do so! You might just find a new favorite band!

One of the finest Rock bands ever.,

I maybe one of the few people in the US that has everyone of You Am I's albums. This is such a pity. They are one of the finest rock bands now or ever. #4 Record just confirms this. Great melodies and lyrics the whole package. On top of being a great album band they absolutely rock live. I had the pleasure of seeing them live in The Bottom Of The Hill Club in San Francisco, a tiny place where they were second on the bill. I am surprised the 3rd band even bothered to play. Probably the best gig I have ever been to.

Groove On This,Suger Pop!,
By A Customer
This review is from: #4 Record (Audio CD)
By the by,I picked up Suger Pop from Timmy Rogers, can't get the phrase outta my head...Can Uncle Timmy and the boys do nothing wrong, what an amazing catalog of work they've graced us with!#4 Record was the cherry on top of a perfectly concocted career of pop confection, until now,Saturday Night,Round Ten has just been released, these mega-sites still are'nt offering it yet, hound them, rattle their goddarn monkey cages til they offer it up,better yet let's send a barrage of posts to the lable BMG distribution.ALL that this AMAZING band has released in the past is truely slendid,if ya dig anything from Hank Williams(yeah Timmy can prime that C/W pump better n' Garth could ever dream!,as he proved it on his solo outing What Rhymes W/Cars And Girls)through ALL that was great about the invasion period( The Move,Creation,Oooo,Stones, they even covered The Smoke's My Friend Jack!)into the punkypop period of the latter 70s early 80s(Jam,Rich Kids,Buzzcocks...)what peripherals did I leave out, hmmm,a nod to Iggy Pop(they covered Search And Destroy)a wink at The NY Dolls(Lookin' For A Kiss),let's just say EVERYTHING that we love about Rock N' Roll is what You Am I are all about! They wear their influences on their sleeves and they're not afraid to show it and all along the way they've created some of their own most memorable music ever made. Saturday Night,Round Ten is a live collection of songs recorded over a three night stand at the Casa Del Resaca(home of the hangover)in BEAUTIFUL downtown Melbourne, great stuff, the initial 5,000 or so Oz copies come w/a fantastic CD Rom which includes a 15+ min. documentary and 5 "throwaway" cuts that the band deemed not worthy to make the cut for #4,five tracks ANY band mind you would be grateful to call top shelf stuff, I know this is space to review #4 but this record is amazing and SHOULD be easily acessable to Stateside/Non Antipodal fans. There's been a few bands back through the ether of my 30 or so years of an avid/fervent love for good music that I can say changed me and the way I judge all others by,YOU AM I are one of these bands, just one groovers' opinion... Cheers To Ya

I'd never heard these guys, but bought this on the recommendation of Jack Rabid in The Big Takeover magazine... and it hasn't been far from my CD player for months! Great pop songs that bounce around in your head for days... I'd have given it five stars but had to take something off for the production- which is a little muddy. But I love it when I get adventurous and pick a CD I've never heard, and it turns out to be a winner! This is tons better than the junk on the radio nowadays. Great!
